15 string bass alert!

I sense a bit of "let's run this up the flagpole, and see if anyone salutes it" mindset with these guys.

I suspect this converstation (fill in the blank) may be often overheard in their shop:

"Im thinking of making a ______ , waddaya think?"

"Yeah, what the heck, we'll put it on Ebay, some idiot's bound to wanna buy it"

that guitar-bass thing...seriously, WHY would anybody WANT that? At first I was amazed it was neck-through, until I realized it was just neck-on? It makes no sense? What's the target market for a guitar fretboard with half a bass fretboard stuck on top of it? What possible good could that thing do? My brain hurts.

I do want one of those Galveston 8-strings, though. Those look tasty.

That guitarbass thing might be cool if the guitar was a 6 string, it would make a nice budget Warr or Stick substitute with a few modifications.

I have them as one of only 2 favorites on ebay, for things like this. the banitar bassolin was another great one :D

a few more points about this bass:
-All guitar tuner machines. not a single bass tuning machine.

-you would have to use piano strings for the bass side. if you started with guitar strings, you'd start with .09" and end 6 strings later at .042. take a 5 string bass set, and you go from .045-.132. now, at string 11, you need to find 4 more strings that are thicker then .132" thick. your getting into the black keys on the extended range piano's note wise if you attempt it, so I'd assume that for a 15 string bass you'd have to go higher with a picolo mandolin style something...

-all strings have the same vibrating distance. http://youtube.com/watch?v=UJSEaxJalco - thats jean baudins 11 string bass, and you'll note that the treble strings are noticably shorter in vibrating string length. thats because the longer the string is, the higher the tension required to get the correct note out of it. the upper strings would snap on the 15 string bass if the treble side is .009" thick.

-equal fret spacing. frets get fanned to compensate for the longer scale/vibrating string length from bass to treble, essentially going from a bass neck to a guitar neck. this thing, even if it worked, even if it had monster .150" bass strings, even if it didn't have plastic ferrules with the string end being held on by the body it'self, EVEN if you could plug it in and it made sound - theres no way the intonation would be anything remotely resembling a playable instrument.

But awesome looking all the same :D:D
