15 string bass alert!

No. I believe it's been mentioned a few times in this thread already. YES, the string spacing appears to be rather "random" indeed.

The worst thing in the pic is the string spacing, and the uneven ferrules down below the bridge. Even if it would tune up, it would play like crap, and with that many strings and an uncomfortable vibe to begin with, whats the point?

wishbass ocassionally has uneven string spacing, but not quite as bad as this, and because his nuts are bone you can get around it with some notches.

Why not just play the inside of a piano? Plenty of strings and you wouldn't have to worry about those pesky frets.

Seriously, what's with this random spacing?!?! It seems like it was made on purpose, or at least I couldn't imagine someone drilling without a plan. But maybe I'm reading too much into it...

on the 8 string fretless they have it's not random, if you look at the bottom where the ferrules are, they skipped one ferrule in the pattern on both ends, resulting in the low bas and high trebel strings being "one string" farther away then the rest, a complete double distance spacing at the bridge. it corrects itself at the nut because the nut is psuedo correct spacing.

They just didn't want to break with the standard drill pattern, so they skipped one to keep it "even" with what they would normally do? or something???

on the 15 string, the spacing at the bridge is mostly in pairs (so it looks anyways), so two strings are close together, then a gap, 2 strings, gap etc... though even thats not completely accurate from string set to string set...


also - tennesee plastic ferrules, and often only on one side, so the string's grommet/ball end rests on the wood of the body. qual-it-ty right there

about the only use I could think of for something that daft is to put it on a keyboard stand and play it steel-guitar style....


or maybe use it as a sideboard.....

to much tension

it's better to play a guqin or a guzheng (chinese zither, where you change the pitch on one side of the bridge). the guqin is closer to a low tension pianno then the guzheng, wich is more like a zither with movable bridges that are centered, rather then at one extreme end allowing you to change the tention drastically by pushing on one side of the floating bridges or the other.
