18 volts JAG - possible???

I have a 70's P/J with EMGs. It has a 9 volt in it but supposedly can handle 18 or 24VDC. I am considering adding a 2nd battery. That said, Anyone know if a Jaguar bass can handle more than the 9 volts it was designed for? The treble pot really doesn't seem to add a helluva lot to the sound - perhaps 18VDC would add some headroom to the sound.
 
I suppose the circuit has been layed out in such a way that the actual pre-amp always gets the same voltage through a voltage regulator. If so, applying higher voltages would mean more power through the drain, :eek: and no improvement of headroom whatsoever. As the amplitude of the output voltage of the bass is less than one Volt, there is no need for higher supply voltages at all. :rollno:

Unlikely they would use a voltage regulator on a battery-only circuit. Adds uneccessary cost. You would need to find out what IC is used as the preamp and just look up it's data sheet.

Well, if they don't use one, which also saves battery power, there should still be no need for the extra voltage, as the voltage swing is too low for that. These IC's might have a spec of + and - 15 V, but the required headroom is a function of the input signal, the amplification and the impedance.
