1955 Pbass on eBay

Sweet bass and seems well worth it to a collector, but out of my price range. For that cash outlay I could get my dream bass and still have enough left over to put the 383 Stroker I want in my 69 Impala. Cars are my second love behind basses!

+10000 I'm a gearhead as well and my 2 '74 fords have been neglected since I've been on my bass questing the past few months. After the last deals are done I'm done and its back to the cars. :p

Wow, what a beauty. What was something like this going for ten years ago? Three, maybe four grand? Maybe Sting will buy it.

Notice how there isn't the exaggerated forearm wear that you see on so many relics? To me, it's the use of a beltsander that's the dead giveaway on the cheapie relic'ing jobs.

Too bad the original owner(s) didn't take better care of the entire bottom end of this bass, the finish there (what's left of it) really does look fragile in it's present state.

I noticed how fragile that paint is as well. Its so cracked and brittle I think after a few times playing it most of the body would be natural wood. Its a shame too. I wonder if it could all be clear coated to preserve whats left on it????

Very nice bass! I noticed the pickguard is not original and the case is a reissue. Still, nice bass I didn't have any problem loading the pics as I have a 15Meg download speed at my house!

:D Don't wanna know how long it too me to download that auction page. I am on dial up with crappy phone lines :scowl:

this dealer is a great guy,ive been to his shop...look at it this way... if tune_o_matic(Andy in Los Angeles)had it listed on ebay it would be 30 grand and we would be seeing it in person from the truck of his car

I'd love to do an A/B comparison on these two :). I wonder if the real thing would really feel 6 times better than the Custom Shop version :eyebrow:!?

Still, it's great when sellers go to that much trouble to show the fine details of their vintage basses. It means that all of us vintage freaks (who don't have the required $15k ;)) can appreciate the instrument too.

I've played a lot more guitar than bass, it's not like I can tell most of you guys anything you don't already know. I had a '64 Strat that was truly a great one. Absolutely loved it. But I sold it to pay the rent in the late 80's, regret it to this day. I eventually replaced it with a Custom Shop '60 Closet Classic Strat that I truly feel is the equal of my '64. So from that, I'd extrapolate that some of these Custom Shop reissue basses could be every bit as good as the originals they're modeled after. A reissue may or may not have some undefinable mojo, but it could very likely play and sound as good. Somebody might point out that there are some magical originals out there, and I'd agree. But a buddy of mine had a '65 Strat, original down to the last screw, and it was a mediocre player. Not a dog, but definitely nothing to write home about. I always enjoy seeing the old ones though.

That's very reassuring to hear koobie, so thanks for that :)!

To continue the thread hijack :(, I'm especially glad to hear this, as not 3 minutes ago, I clicked on the "Buy Item" option for another Fender Custom Shop bass - this time, a beautiful '61 P Bass (NOS) in LPB ! This one really is my "dream bass", so I hope that it outshines all of my previous P Basses :hmm:.

Got a lot of selling to do now to pay for it though :p.

(end of hijack ;)).
