i've dealt with this seller a few times. he's a great guy and ALL of his instruments are 100% legitimate vintage and exactly what he adverstises them to be. you should see some of the instruments that he has at his house. it would blow your mind. in all of my years, i've never seen so many unmolested, super clean all original vintage fender guitars and basses in one place.

i also think that considering the '62 jazz bass's and 1960 p bass's condition, they're worth what he's asking for them (to a collector with $). those two basses will be worth a small fortune if/when the economy recovers.

Just put a Fender Precision Bass Waterslide instead of his decal and some pencil markings on the neck..probably a T.G. (Tadeo Gomez) and It'll trick a LOT of people.

Well the price is retail in one of the New York 48th street shop not ebay. It's quite high IMHO; that being said it only takes one buyer.

Also to be considered instruments which have not been played often sound very average if not bad.

+1! I made the mistake once of buying a '63 Jazz that was in similar condition. Worst playing bass I ever owned.

I kind of wonder if the body is a refin, neck pocket looks a bit odd for that era, Im no expert but usually there is a paint stick mark and I dont see that here.

There was no paint stick mark in that era. This bass is legit.

There are old time collectors and dealers that have been fooled before. Most won't admit how many fakes are in circulation but it's kind of an open secret that's just a fact of life with these instruments.

This dealer is mostly on the up and up but he has been proven to have swapped parts and to later claim 100% originality on some Fenders. Without provenance it's so easy to bring a bass back to having period correct parts on a given instrument. It doesn't mean the bass will be worth less, but it's just the way it is with interchangeable parts.

Very true. Many big dealers have been fooled and I'd guess a lot of them willingly. That's a lot of money to get for a custom build.

Google Musicground counterfeits for the story of a large respected company fooling many vintage experts for years.

The bass in this ad looks too good to be true.

That's why I said that there's next to no chance it's a fake. Unless someone milled and re-created it like a true artist (which is crazy but remotely possible).

It's very easy to fake a Fender, just make them like they did and use the same stuff. They've been doing it in Japan since the 1980's at least. There's nothing in there that can't be recreated cheaply. And fakes have been well known since the beginning of the vintage market.

These basses are legit and super clean. I have a 1960 P bass and I can say that the P Bass is original and the cleanest I've ever seen.

Extremely good for 50+ years old.

They used nails in the face of the body as standoffs to keep the body elevated whild they sprayed the back. One of the nail holes can be seen in the P bass near the E string side of the corner of the neck pocket.

I don't recognize that assembly under the ashtray.
Never saw one before anywhere.

I used to own a '62 Jazz and all it had was a black weatherstrip rubber mute stuck under the ashtray. No assembly whatsoever.

Either this is a VERY rare prototypical Jazz Bass or a very elaborate counterfeit.

Anybody else recognize those mutes and metal screwdowns?

Also, I know the constant-thickness rosewood fingerboard has some significance for dating, but I'm not knowledgeable on that one.

I also can't tell if the bridge saddles in the pics are the threaded type. In '62 they should have been.

The dot markers look like the original clay markers Leo cut out of cheap floor tiles back then.

I'm also not sure about the neck pocket being completely painted either.

The Waterslide decal is a red flag too. "Offset Contour Body" used to always be in the center of the circle-end of the headstock, not where it's shown on the pics.
To me that's a BIG red flag.

I think we need an expert to evaluate this baby.
It sure does look fine on first look. It'll be interesting to see if anybody throws $20 grande at it.

i noticed there is no description of its condition in the ad besides hamana. so if you find a repair on it, there is nothing to dispute with paypal. it should say completely original mint condition. return policy states : return if not as described. so if you can prove its not hamana (speechless) you can return it . also the 15% restocking fee stated is quite a few bucks !
