Yeah - the lightest Fender I've ever encountered was around 7 lbs 6 oz and that was for a P Bass.
Something up? - Possibly
Rare gem? - Maybe.
Fat finger? - Absolutely. (The "8" is REALLY close to the "5" on a number pad. I've done it a million times.)

Maybe it spent it's life in the desert and it's dried right out. Haha. I don't know...
Possibly but that's a lot of HEAVY wear just to be caused by picks. Maybe whoever owned it played it with a watch or heavy bracelet on and that's how it got worn so badly.
That bass looks straight from here. Not seeing anything untoward about the wear areas. There's no accounting for how individuals cause wear on their instruments. Some players wore tons of jewelry back in the day...huge rings, bracelets, buckles, studs, etc. The dots don't always have to look extra dark either, just depends.
Besides, if someone created a fake, why would they have added extra artificial wear in an unusual spot that would raise suspicion from skeptics? Makes no sense. Occam's razor.
The veneer cap board is consistent with Oct '62, as is the (missing) string mute system, and a white tolex case may be original for a late '62 Fender as well. It might even have an L-series numbered plate. I'd expect to see an ink "stamped" neck date and no red paint under the guard.
Is it worth 11K? Not to me. I'm still living in the distant past, when a bass like that would have cost <$500.
