I had the same thoughts -- I went with the A3, as it was really all I could afford. I will report back here as soon as they come in in a few weeks.

Looks like my current gig is solid on using the IEM system; so I am re-evaluating my transducers. I've been using the Westone UM30; but, while they sound OK, they are uncomfortable, even with all the different foam balls they provide.

Which has me looking hard at the 1964 transducers. The problem I am having with the 1964 products is that there are so many of them; and I can't honestly tell where the performance goes from need to have to nice to have. I think I am looking in the A2 - A4 price points. The A4 supposedly has a little more bass emphasis, going by their crude chart. But, do you really need that? Any feedback from cats who have used several of the transducers would be appreciated in terms of practical vs extra frills. Thanks, it's a bit confusing without actual use feedback.

What are you looking for ? @Geri O is the only person on here I know of that has UM30 (or equivalents) and 1964 ears (Qi'S).
I have used Qi's for both bass and guitar for close to 2 years. They can produce stupid/silly amounts of bass.
When the band became 1964 Artists, I upgraded to A8's - double the number of bass drivers than the Qi's.
The "air" - almost like ambient ports - in the A8's (ADEL technology), took a little getting used versus the fully sealed Qi's. But hey DO sounds GREAT !!

I can used either set.. much better fit (being customs) than any universals I have used.
I put mine in at sound check, and they most often stay in until the gig is done..

I highly recommend an minimum of 3 drivers if you play bass - like you have now - so that would be A3's at a minimum.
A4's will give you TWO LF drivers - more bass, tweak to taste.
You might call 1964 and talk to Alex about your concerns over which model to go with.. I have found (between both sets I own) that the EQ curve shown on their site is fairly accurate.
FWIW - our singer has A12's and absolutely loves them.. he can get lots of talent in his ears

Many thanks. That was great info. I did not realize the A4's were pretty much re-labeled Qi's. With that, your previous post as well as other posts in the thread make a lot more sense. I obviously missed that one.

I just got my A4s back from a refitting. The right side was not sealing properly. Now they are perfect!

I love the extra bass of the A4s. I do a lot of mixing and music listening as well as bass so I almost thought I'd be better off with the A3, but I don't regret getting the 4. It handles bass so well it's crazy. Feels like you have a subwoofer in your ear. If you can afford it I'd recommend going for it, but I dont see any problem with the 3s either.

Alas, my desire for quad-drivers won out over my desire to purchase 1964's -- I couldn't justify the additional cost of the 64's. I decided to order the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] instead ($475 base price). I read through a ton of reviews for all brands, and came to the conclusion that most, if not all, brands met or exceeded customer expectations. I honestly didn't read any reviews that said "geez, purchasing Brand X was a big mistake...they sound terrible." I'm confident that the InEarz will work great. Review forthcoming in a few weeks.

After a week with my U6's I think my christmas bonus is going to have to go to some A12's. The sound on these is so damn unreal I have to fight the urge to ignore every phone call or coworker asking a question. I feel like a teenager who wants to only communicate through text only so I don't have to stop the music.

I have been using original version Quads for the better part of four years. The bass emphasis as a bass player is very beneficial IMHO and I thought they did a great job making a usable product for people like us. My bass can sound however I want it to and the kick drum can be as big and bombastic as I want. I would order the equivalent Quad product today if I had to do it again.

Good move, no doubt. The A4s are what you are looking for if you want bass-specific or bass-heavy molds. The A4s aren't just re-badged Quads, they have the Adele (now Apex?) technology.

Going from standard IEMs to the A4 is night and day difference. The quality, clarity, and bass are all leaps and bounds better than a standard set.

If you are used to universal IEM's, you will get a significant sound quality improvement just by going to a custom mold of your ear. This is a seal/fit result. By default, perceived bass response will be improved on this aspect alone. Increased clarity comes from having a dedicated driver (or drivers) for low frequencies. I noticed improved bass by going from 3 driver universals to customs. I also was able to pick out sub-bass frequencies, which I attribute to the extra driver in my Qi's.

I'm continually amazed at the sub-bass I hear in my A8's.. . better than the Qi's - and I got stupid/silly amounts of bass in them - if desired.
