1964 Ears Owners Group

smiling has always been a little tough for me in the past. With my 64ears the seal doesn't break (usually), but occasionally it will. Definitely don't have any pain though. I think if you get the soft tips it will help that not to happen. If they are new you could send them back to be re-fit...I would contact them about it in case the mold was bad or something.

has anyone ever had fit issues when you smile? When I smile, it puts pressure on a certain part. It aches after I take it out. My other ears seems almost perfect, even though it moves a little, I can barely feel it.

I sometimes lose seal temporarily if I smile, but never pain. Perhaps you would be a good candidate for soft canal tips. If you have one of the 1964 Ears products give them a call to talk it over!

I got the soft tips on mine. No problems smiling but I don't sing (out loud at least). I like the soft tips but then again I do not know any different.

Soft tips definitely help with the seal, but for me, smiling/singing changes the shape of the canal just enough to lose seal. However, after about 10 minutes of routine losing seal & pushing them back in (maybe 5 times), they seal better. IME

Seal was considerably worse with hard tips (which I consequently returned during the 30-day window for soft tips).

Did the research (thanks everyone here) and ordered the 1964 Quads to replace my Shure SE215 buds - 1st gig last night and all I can say is it's by far the best investment I have made next to my Zon's. The bass sounds amazing and vocals were so clear what a great product!

Note to self, in-ears are painful when you have a raging ear infection with an ear drum about to burst! Lol. Learned the hard way...

I felt unusual pressure and discomfort in my left ear during our set at church but played through the pain. Went to the doctor next day and turned out my ear drum had burst from the ear infection. Doc asked if I used ear plugs because my ear canal was inflamed.

Moral of the story, don't ignore what your body tells you!

Still love my quads!!

Here's my Quads (phone cam). I kept them pretty simple, I'm not into the ostentatious for my gear. Got them late January, and been using them for gigs (we're all IEM) in band and connected to Avioms for Sun church.

PS: The cables are already green (oxidized) but don't affect sound, so I may have to get the new Graphite cables.

I've got a set of Qi's on the way! I can't wait! Does anyone know if the UE cable with the mic for your iPhone is compatible with the 1964 CIEMS, or if there is another cable/mic that is? I will be using these for every day wear, in addition to gigging around.

Also, is the bass overkill for general listening, or do they still sound pretty awesome?

I just ordered the Qi's on Friday with the black friday discount. I can't wait! Does anyone know if the UE cable with the mic for your iPhone is compatible with the 1964 CIEMS, or if there is another cable/mic that is? I will be using these for every day wear, in addition to gigging around.

I don't believe they are.. different connectors on the Qi's I think.. and isn't the UE cable molded to the buds (not separate)?

They sound AWESOME for normal listening...

Thanks overbybr and S0c9! Much appreciated. I don't think the UE cable is molded to the buds, as they sell replacements, and the optional cable with mic/volume control in line. I'm not 100% sure, though.

Anyway, I've been reading the forums for a long time, and finally just joined. This place seems like a great community and I am grateful for everything I have learned here.

If anyone else knows about a UE cable working with 1964 buds, I'd love to hear it!

I listen with mine a good bit. I prefer a set of Sony MDR-7506s for general listening, but the Quads are great and waaay better for practicing with playback from the notebook, iPod, whatever.

Maybe I'm strange like this, but when I can, I actually roll a little low end out of my Quads. They are quite bassy, but in a good way! I doubt I'll ever blow them. I can't imagine what would happen to my ears if I did blow them up!

That and a Sennheiser EW300 IEM rig is some of the best money I've ever spent.
