1964 Ears Owners Group

So I just placed my order for a pair of Quads like 30mins ago. Stoked. I'm having my impressions done tomorrow. I ended up going with the brown sparkle pictured above. I was seriously debating going with the orange sparkle. However looks like orange sparkle isn't on their color lost anymore. Weird. I know. From the time I posted the 4 color choices pictured above to now, their glitter color choices have shrunk to 1/2 of what you could have picked from say a week ago. Any rate, still stoked. I think the quads will rock. And the brown glitter shells should look cool too.

I ordered last week and decided to embrace my inner child with the design on the quads. Molds got accepted a few days ago and hoping they arrive before my gig in early March.

That's step 4 of 10 ... based on your order pics above, I'd guess you're looking at about 2 weeks (ish) before shipping.

If thats the case that would prob put my total wait time right at 1 month. I paid on Jan 13th. I shipped my impressions on the 15th. They received my impressions on Monday the 19th. I can't wait! I'm hoping to have these in before the next time I'm solicited to volunteer for church band.

Mine went to molds poured Friday, and I practically did the victory dance. Apparently a few days for the assembly with testing and shaving the molds, so likely no change for me until Friday. Geez I'm getting all wound up like it's Christmas and I saw the box of the Red Rider BB gun in my parents closet...:hyper:

Yep. that's how long it took last year to make mine...

At one point, I had a gig pop up where I could have really used to Quads, so I called 1964 and the guy was so nice and pleasant. He said he could move mine to rush status for the appropriate fee, of course, but it would have been only 7 days quicker and he advised to just be patient, save my money, and try to tough it out for a little longer. He apologized profusely that the wait was what it was, but they were so covered up on orders and taking them as they came in, except for the rush orders. Fortunately, my church loaned me a set of the Westone UM30s for that show, which is how I found out about them (I gotta say, they sounded really good, too.).

We were on pretty good terms by then (never bad, we we were just casually talking at that point) and I jokingly asked what would happen if ALL the orders came in under rush status. He laughed and said that's why the rush fee is so high, to discourage it as much as possible, although there are still a good many rush orders after all. He said they had eventual expansion plans to be able to get them out quicker, but they were having such good luck with the present crew, they were deathly afraid to mess with the formula that was serving them so well.

Man, how can you argue with that? Of course, that was a year ago and I imagine that they've expanded somewhat since this new, uber-expensive line of IEMS has come out (upwards of $1200-1300!!). Glad I'm not feeling the need for those.......

(yet....:D)

I came "" that close to going in early, spending $1000 on the Kickstarter price for the [$1799] set of A10's.. but man, that was close to 50% of a new bass guitar (for which I'm still saving, tho' I DO like my BTB), and my Qi's work so-o-o-o freakin' well.. I passed on it [duh!].

I ordered a set of quads a few weeks back but decided to pull out my order.

being in Canada, I foresaw some problems after shipping out some impressions that turned out to be unusable.
I decided to stay local and deal with a company who does all of the work in house and had a two week turnaround and was 2-300 dollars cheaper.
the specs were very similar.
too bad it didn't work out.
I have a friend who turned me on to 1964 though and I have no doubt they are great.

Hi guys, I've been furiously researching, trying to determine what would be the best set of custom IEMs. The single driver Sure buds that came with my wireless monitor system worked fine for playing fiddle onstage, but don't even come close to meeting my needs on bass. I had pretty much decided on a set of V8s, and then I found this post... Lol. I have a few questions that I think would best be posed to someone with some real life experience and who is not just trying to sell me the most expensive model. I was hoping maybe you guys would give me a little guidance on picking the right set.

First, almost everyone here seems to have quad drivers and be very happy with them. Are quad drive IEMs sufficient for most bass monitoring needs? Would there be a huge difference in the bass response/clarity/frequency range between 4,6, or 8 drivers? It would definitely make my wife a lot happier if I could say I saved a little and went with a less expensive set, but I'd rather pay a little more now and get the right set, than be wishing I had done so later...

Second, I'm pretty concerned about the isolation bubble that comes from using IEMs. I know I don't want vented IEMs, but I was wondering how well stage mics worked. We use an overhead condenser mic to pick up a little extra from the drum kit, but I don't think it will be enough to hear when the singer decides that setlists are for whimps and starts calling out songs I haven't heard in 15 years...lol. Should I be looking at a separate condenser mic just to pic up ambient stage sounds and if so, should it have it's own channel or should I set it up as a talkback mic?

Third, would bass response be more accurate from a larger single woofer(Westone ES50) or from 2 or 4 smaller woofers(v6 or v8)?

Lastly, just about every review I have read has been very complimentary of 1964ears as a company. That seems to be the agreement here as well. Westone, has been around for 40 years and has a lot of experience, do you guys feel that 1964ears is on par in terms of service and quality? I don't mind paying more for service/quality/longevity, but I hate just paying for a name.

I really apologize for the length of this post, (or if any of the questions I asked are incredibly stupid, lol), but I love this forum and I know you guys are really knowledgeable! Thanks in advance for any insight y'all are willing to share!

Derrick.
