1967 Aria Pro Owned by Geddy Lee???

I'd like to know how pickups "burn out"? That takes some serious thrashing to generate enough current to "burn out" a pickup.

And I wonder what this alleged former roadie of Geddy Lee's was doing with the bass in his truck? The explanation is chronologically weak (roadie became a truck driver, and just randomly had the bass and stopped in Deming on his way somewhere?).

Deming is a small, quiet town right on I-10 between El Paso and Tuscon. Some huge percentage of the country's interstate traffic goes right through Deming as I-10 is a major trucking route, so I don't doubt that someone randomly took a bass in and gave some kind of fantastical story about it.

I just hope the guy didn't pay anything for the "privilege" of "working" on "Geddy Lee's" bass! What better way to unload hot gear than dumping it in a small-town shop in Deming NM?

Don't get me wrong - I love NM (been here a good part of my life) - but some people are delusional...

I sent him an email with only the link to this thread. Here is what he wrote back:

"Its sad you guys have nothing better to do than talk crap about something u saw on cl. i put in everything was told to me by the tech i sent the bass to i figure if he is the lead tech for Aria he would know what he's talking about. i am selling this bass to get money for bills and propane and now because of you guys what should've been an easy sale is now just another problem in my life. my son and i thank you for all your help."

My response:
"Um, I didnt post anything, I was just showing you the thread to make
sure you know about it. You arent gonna be able to sell it for that
price if you cannot prove its history. It's worth maybe $400 on a good
day. Just trying to help so you can sell it."

Then from him:
"first of all i didn't lie everything i put on there is what i know to be true the trucker told me it was geddy's bass and the tech john pollard told me the year of the bass and that Seymore Duncan handwound the pickup. and you guys think because i live in a small town that this can't be true. and as far as me and my son are concerned u can all rot in hell."

Funny I didn't mention anything about lying, he did. He seems overly defensive. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but he seems like he may in fact be trying to pull a fast one.

Someone should make a post on the local CL saying the story is BS.

If he wanted "an easy sell", he should have done some homework on the intertubes and then posted the bass (with verifiable facts like the right year) for it's fair-market value, without all the dubious back story.

But no one in their right mind is going to pay what he's asking for an instrument with such a questionable story in a town that's a good full-day's drive there and back from where he posted it for sale.

Besides, the general bass-buying-public isn't going to look up this thread on TB...
