Did you ever try the 200s bottoms? To me those sound good with a good head, even today

Hello All in the Bass World,
IMHO "They Don't Make em Like They Used To", not to say there's not good amps out there. As far as power, wow, thousands of watts,and all and all, sounding pretty good. That being said, my old 200s with the side port 2x15m loaded w/ Kappalite 3015s sounds nothing short of "Giant", deep piano-string-ringing with a "NO" distortion, but a "FAT" grind. I play mostly clubs 100-200 seaters and I've never turned it up over 3 on the volume, and 4 1/2 out-doors, and my band mates and sound guy till me to turn down turn-down..... I guess it all comes down to taste, and this rig satisfies mine!!!

Yep. there's something to a bag cab, that can't be replicated
by anything else.
Just ask those kids that still play thru SVTs

My favorite dino thread! I call BS too.The 12 " just can not move the air that 2 15" JBL speakers can.During the late 60s i used to go watch the James Gang play in the Cleveland area.Tom Kriss (r.i.p.) used 2 200s heads and 4 200s cabs.he used a Gibson EB3 bass.that was probably the most penetrating heavy bass sounds I had ever heard.Was great.Joe walsh used a little Fender combo amp. like maybe a Twin Reverb sitting on a chair or drum case.Shure Vocal Master P.A.His sound can be heard on the James Gang "Yer Album".Only better live.
I used an Acoustic 371 head and 2 370 cabs.Folded horn design with the cerwin vega 18".I absolutely hated that amp.I could not hear it on stage.with either one or two cabs.However it was blowing glasses off the bar in the back of the roomLOL.I used a Traynor yba3a head and 2 Traynor yc810 cabs with 8 10" speakers in each before that.Was a great rig.traded it in for the Acoustic.Big mistake.Finally got rid of the Acoustic and went back to the Traynor yc810 cabs and a Marshall Major 200 watt head.Had its own sound but it wasn't like my original rig.Then what you need is a Sunn Coliseum and perhaps a Slave. And a fuzz box. With a Coliseum and a 'folded' 2x15 box, I rocked the back of the room. Back in the day. But the back (sound guy) could hear better than I could. He kept showing me his hand with his thumb pointed down. I never learned what that meant.
