I'd have the case repaired if possible.
With respect to the body restoration:
You might be able to remove that glued on stuff with some heat. You'd need to be careful not to damage the finish, but I believe that would work.
Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0 is terrific stuff which will take care of heavy scratches and such. And Zymol cleaner wax is one of the best products around to bring out the beauty in the finish. I've used both products and can't say enough about how well they work. I used in in my '78 Gibson RD Artist and it looks so much better.
The RD really stands out in the crowd and sounds/plays amazing. It's one of my all time favorites. Truly one of Gibson's least appreciated basses. They were light years ahead of their day and remain a terrific instrument.
I can get mine to sound like a Rickenbacker on steroids!!
It's a little heavy, but who cares. And it balances like no other!!
They're iconic in every way.
I want to own all four finishes some day.
