1976 Fender P

Again, i have said it before, my mid 70's have the the pre 76 headstock, but the neck stamp clearly dates it to 2nd week of 1977 and serial number dates it to 1975. mine bass looks exactly like that one, yours even look slightly better, and with all i have put in to it for making it stock again, i am closing in on having paid 1600 dollar for it.

exept for the bridge, everything on that bass seems original, ill say go for it.

+1. I agree with Thunder Fingers, I think the color black is correct in era for the pickguard, but I am almost certain that it's not the original only because it lacks the holes for the PUP cover. If it's authentic bridge maybe $100 or more. There maybe serial numbers on the underside of the bridge. I am really not sure about that one though. I am a Fender nut, but they're tons of folks way more knowledgeable than me.

I am sorry TF, but are you directing your questions to me? If so, I said it may be worth a shot checking the bridge, but I wouldn't know about 50's era bridges, since I have never owned one. As far as pics of my 70's era P-Basses... I wish! I sold both back after a period of not playing back in the early 90's while I was in graduate school and regret it big time! :crying: I just have my 2002 ADP and 2007 ADJ now. I would like to get a passive P sometime soon though.

Sorry, don't know much about 50's Fender basses. I've only been learning a lot about late 60's and 70's lately because of what has come my way.

The bridge looks certainly old, so I don't think it's a RI. I guess what you need to do is narrow it down to what year it is, and then let the buyers be the judge... however, I wouldn't say "this is for certain a 195x bridge".

Hopefully someone here with more experience on some of the 50's models can help you out.

I just searched past auctions on ebay to see if I could find some information for you, but I didn't see any that have been listed/sold lately... making me think that what you will draw some hard-up collectors - restorers (not sure if that's a word...) with that bridge.

I would buy that either way. Seems that from this thread everyone has concluded that is it mostly authentic, and even if not, thats a damn cool bass and if it plays well, you can't go wrong for $500. New MIM basses alone go for that much.

The pickguard has definitely been replaced. Just like I had to on mine because it cracked... Mine came with all the covers and stuff when I bought it back in 1976.

IF it is in any kind of reasonable condition at all... its worth the money.
