I love the neck on this bass, it's just the body is a "smidge" too large for my little self. Tone-wise it's great, neck is great, body....about 10% too wide.

1980s Peavey Foundation appreciation thread

Tim,
I love the neck on this bass, it's just the body is a "smidge" too large for my little self. Tone-wise it's great, neck is great, body....about 10% too wide.
Then I would advise to strip the body, rasp and sand to desired shape, sand down to 2000 then apply oil finish.
It will be close to impossible to resell at a good price but it will be what you need.
my high school has an old peavey in the music department. i thought about buying a squier, sx, or something for cheap and see if the director would trade it.
The Peaveys were the SX / Ibanez of their time. Why don't you see if they are ready to sell it? A high school band screams for a GSR 200 IMHO.

I just got it this afternoon....spent some time getting it all set up and ready for tomorrow's gig.
I have to say this is one of the punchiest basses I've ever heard. Amazingly powerful sounding Jazz tone.
lots of growl.
Not to mention, it does a really a really good P tone with the neck solo'd.
I really like the neck. A touch thicker than my Millennium.
Somewhat narrow at the nut but reasonable.
Question: Does the Foundation 5 require a shorter allen wrench?
I couldn't get my standard wrench in there properly.........so I didn't even try to adjust it.

Having been a hardcore Fender Jazz guy (i stray but always return to my dark master), I picked up an 84 Foundation, put a new nut on it, re-fretted, cleaned pots and new shielding....
well, I have to say.....HOLY SHYZA! I really am blown away at the sound and the feel. Since I think this is a rare color, I'm not going to mess with it, but I just might have to find a second one and send to Marty Bell!

Of all of the basses I wish Peavey would never have stopped making, the foundation and patriot are the top of my list. Light, fast, punchy, and a tone that emasculates fender.
Next on your list should be a Patriot, another smoking hot ferrite equippedbass in the foundation family. Single ferrite pickup in the p position, with a p style pickguard, another over looked gem. Mine is black and maple, and is the best sounding 4 string I have ever owned.

I have a question I suspect I know the answer to. I recently bought an '84 Foundation off eBay (my fourth Foundation!) that has holes outlining where a pick guard was (some of the holes have an erupted look just like someone yanked off the pick guard with force)...did any Foundations ever come with a pick guard? I have never seen one with a pick guard nor evidence they ever did. I am assuming it was a custom/homemade job but I'm still curious.
