1U Empty Rack Enclosure

I'm looking for an empty 1U rack enclosure. Ideally, I'm looking for something that's as shallow as possible. I used to have a Korg DTR-1000 that was about 3" (approximate based on memory) deep. Something like that would be perfect. Most of what I've seen has been 6" at the shallowest.

Does anybody have any recommendations on a place to buy an empty 1U rack enclosure that's as shallow as possible?

Thanks!

I had considered a rack shelf, but that still leaves me with the task of having to deal with cables every time I plug/unplug something from the cluster breakout cable. If I can house this in a rack, everything will be contained, and all that I'll see is the ins/outs, and the connection cable that goes to the Duet itself.

Don't get me wrong, your suggestion is good, but at this point it's sort of the fallback if I can't rehouse it in a rack.

call some of the computer guys in your area, ones that do a lot of networking, and tell them you need just some junk 1u piece that you could gut to use in your rack. they might even just give you something they were throwing out.

^This.

The once 1000€ routers were 5€ a piece when I bought them, the cheapest RS one I have (fan unit) had a list price of 70€ IIRC.

If I didn't buy them from a store, I'd probably gotten 'em for free.

These obsolete network pieces are often filled with usable goodies as well: PSU's, miniature fans, IEC sockets, etc.

Regards
Sam

You're getting real close to hurting my feelings there.
