1X15: lightweight meets classic look & tone?

Hey friends,

Can you help me with a rec? What's out there these days in the 1x15 department that has the following attributes:

- Grill cloth - no metal grills.
- No massive, tacky badges.
- Sounds awesome with reasonable sensitivity and a classic profile (preferably no tweeter/crossover).
- Medium to light weight.

I would be over the moon if, for instance, Mesa did their awesome Subway stuff in something other than the stealthy black/metal look which just doesn't work for me. I appreciate any insight.

Mesa offers their guitars cabs built pretty much any way you want. @agedhorse does that apply to bass cabs too?

Because of the compact nature of the cabinet, there is no room for a cloth/wicker grille frame. That's why it's not offered.

The customization includes a variety of colors and types of coverings, I'm sure we can leave the badge off, there may be some corner options, but it's not like the guitar cabinets. Also, when it comes to the customized guitar cabinets (hard woods, custom grilles), the cost gets pretty darn expensive (IMO), a $2k 115 probably wouldn't have enough interest to justify the tooling and time spent to work out all the details.

Well it's your money and your aesthetic but I find the RevSound logo to be very small, very tasteful and not over the top at all. It's certainly not up there with Peavey LOL.

Call David up and ask him, he actually offers two logos apparently (the shape of the badge, not the logo) and I am pretty sure he would build one sans logo.

I have the RS-28V and the logo is not huge at all, it's a tiny cabinet but the logo does not dominate the front like the TC 2 x 8" logo does.

Yeah it is too bad - I have had both the 115 and the 215 and other than the aesthetic, it immediately came to mind as suiting exactly what you are looking for sonically.

I had a cab with a metal grille once that didn’t really fit the vibe of the roots blues group I was playing with at the time, so I got some fender silver face cloth and simply wrapped the metal grille then screwed it back on. Took some luck and skill to get it perfectly straight but it looked the part. Secured the loose ends in the back with a little duct tape. Lasted about 20 years until I sold it.

just saying, get whatever cab sounds good. If you don’t like the cosmetics, change them. It can be as simple as wrapping the metal grille with some cloth. And that way you get the look of cloth and the safety of metal. If you wanna get real fancy put on a white cloth and get a small smartphone based projector, make it look however you want.

It’s possible as a one-off but very difficult to do well in a production environment.
