I got mine for $180 CAD, with a newer eminence dropped in. Honestly, and IMO, any builder worth their salt could make a box look in the ballpark of this and be lighter than this 3/4" ply box with a 15 odd pound ceramic driver in it.

Resound comes to mind. I wish I could say I knew others at this time other than maybe chopshop.

Nothing wrong with the Fender Rumble 115 cab in my opinion. Has a tweeter which can be turned off. Edit: it does have metal corners.

I was kind of thinking more as just a DIY kind of solution. I dont know how thick the typical grill cloth would be, but I was just kind of thinking of the idea to remove the grill, and then stretch the grill cloth around the metal grill and secure it with some sort of stitch on the inside. And then hopefully there is enough room with the extra grill cloth around the grill to still fit the grill back into position on the cab.

I have the same cab with a matching BassMate head that I adore. I'm just afraid to use it for higher-wattage situations, and I love the basic tone so I don't wanna F with the speaker. But I like the way you think.

Another Revsound vote. I have a 25lb RS115 covered in ampeg tolex. Looks and sounds great. Mine has a low key metal grill but he will do cloth and probably will leave off the logo I assume.

Can confirm it will work. I didn’t do it on a subway, but a metal grille is a metal grille. As I mentioned in my previous post I did it with fender silver face cloth. The two big issues I ran into were getting the cloth centered, even and square. If it’s even a tiny bit cockeyed it looks terrible. The other issue was screwing the grille back on. Since you can’t see through the cloth I chose it was a little difficult and frustrating trying to get the screws back in the holes, blindly wiggling and poking them until you found the hole. Not that it was a big deal, but that was really the hardest part of the whole ordeal, which is to say it’s a pretty easy thing to do.

I couldn't tell you about those marsland speakers, haven't heard one myself, but the cabs really are nothing special - no bracing, no padding or stuffing inside, just 3/4" ply all around with 1" or so pine straps in all the edges so you can screw everything together. Heck, the grille cloth is mounted right onto the baffle on mine, not to a separate frame.

Yours might be different, they had a few different styles.

I need to see a pic of that stack, though, I'm still looking for a yba1 for a good price.

Edit: just thought about it - what about a bfm simplexx? You could literally buy the plans, the driver, and some hardware, and your average cabinet maker could probably be contracted to build the cabinet.

I did a tweed case to my mesa wd800 but I dont think tweed goes well with mesa, so I will retolex it on wine taurus or blue with leather corners. My powerhouse set will be redone on the same color and metal grills replaced with cloth. Im planing to build a thin wood frame inside the grill to staple cloth, if it doesnt work, then I will take off metal and custom make my grills from scratch.
I also have to add a metal side vent to my amp case.

A Fender Rumble 1x15 has classic looks and is built well; you can easily remove the logo and if you want to change/improve the tone/clairity or make it lighter - change the speaker out with a Eminence Neo - Delta Lite II 2515 (300watt RMS).

Hey friends,

Can you help me with a rec? What's out there these days in the 1x15 department that has the following attributes:

- Grill cloth - no metal grills.
- No massive, tacky badges.
- Sounds awesome with reasonable sensitivity and a classic profile (preferably no tweeter/crossover).
- Medium to light weight.

I would be over the moon if, for instance, Mesa did their awesome Subway stuff in something other than the stealthy black/metal look which just doesn't work for me. I appreciate any insight.

THIS! Although, if it were me I'd go with the 2x15.....50 lbs and you can get it any way you want it. Or maybe two of the RS115's

Revsound will make a 115 or 215 any color you like. I recommend the blue python.

Alternatively I can highly recommend the Barefaced 12s. They sound fantastic and are quite lightweight and loud.

In all seriousness, I’m glad you asked and got some helpful replies. Much as I like pointy logos and metal anything, I literally have only black basses, so I might need to seek out some color in cabinetry.
