1X15: lightweight meets classic look & tone?

Certainly sound vintage to me , especially with my Super Bassman or V4B, and even with the Aguilar TH500

Surprised there are no recommendations yet for the Genzler Bass Array 15-3 SLT. 35 lbs of low end glory! Throw a lace doily on top if you're not a fan of the durable metal grill. Classic/Classy look & tone!

You can have the cabinet made without the logo. He has a "ghost" logo that you only see in certain lighting that's the same design as the blue "REV" across the grille. It's very classy IMO and what I had on my RS215T. That was one beast of a cab. Took EQ well and projected nicely!

David is also a pleasure to deal with, I've had numerous conversations with him about bass and life.

I wonder if it would be feasible to somehow attach a grill cloth over top of the metal grill on a subway cab? This is coming from someone who no experience with working with grill cloth though so I don't know how it is typically attached.

I did this with my GK NEO 212 cabs. I used 2x1/2" pieces of wood and installed 1/2" thick pieces on the baffle board. I also hand routed corresponding speaker "holes" on the inside of the grill so that it wouldn't touch the speakers. All of this was a PITA with my limited woodworking and grill stretching knowledge.

It would be nice if more speaker manufacturers would offer grill cloth options, as I personally don't like the look of metal grills.

Another vote for the Fender Rumble 115. Punches well above it's price. Also checks the looks box.

I also suggest the Aguilar SL115 but more expensive and harder to find.

Well it's your money and your aesthetic but I find the RevSound logo to be very small, very tasteful and not over the top at all. It's certainly not up there with Peavey LOL.

Call David up and ask him, he actually offers two logos apparently (the shape of the badge, not the logo) and I am pretty sure he would build one sans logo.

I have the RS-28V and the logo is not huge at all, it's a tiny cabinet but the logo does not dominate the front like the TC 2 x 8" logo does.

Getting a revsound with a cloth grill limits your logo choices I believe, not a big deal for me because the oval logo is small and tasteful. I wanted the big screen printed REV logo cause I think it looks awesome but that’s only on metal grills. You can definitely get David to build you a very old school 115 either way though. I’ve got a 112 that should finish up this week I’m guessing that’s black tolex with an oxblood and gold stripped cloth grill. Would have gone for the cane grill if I had the extra dough. There’s a photo on the revsound site of a British racing green 210 with a cane grill and no logo, an absolute thing of beauty that is!! I’ll post pictures when my cab is done. I just wanted something different looking more than vintage and I think it’ll be looking pretty sweet when David finishes up the grill.

- No massive, tacky badges.
- Sounds awesome with reasonable sensitivity and a classic profile (preferably no tweeter/crossover).
- Medium to light weight.

I would be over the moon if, for instance, Mesa did their awesome Subway stuff in something other than the stealthy black/metal look which just doesn't work for me. I appreciate any insight.

Assuming that Mesa can't do it, that wouldn't stop me. If nothing else, I'd get some cloth and glue it to the front metal grille. Fold under the outside edges for a neat look. It may protrude somewhat, but you'd have the look you want. An upholsterer can help. Good luck.

Pick up some old Bag End S15D cabinets. Sensitive, musical, and midweight at about 42 lbs. These fit most of your parameters.

I found an Ampeg SVT 1x15 on CL and had Fliptops.net make a custom grill for me. It cost me about $250 total and sounds fantastic.

The Fender Bassman 1x15 cabs look really nice and have Neo speakers, I also think they are a little wider than most bass cabs and would look correct with a wider tube head on top.

Tested side-by-side against one of those newfangled NEO cabs mentioned above (a very fine cabinet without doubt), to me Fender Rumble 115 (horn always off) is "classic tone", while the newer cabinet was very nice, but something else.

My first thoughts were a Fender Tumble 15. A RevSound 115, or a Barefaced Big Baby with the cloth grill option.

The Big Baby is a 1x12, but the sound and the volume level will NOT disappoint. But they are REALLY pricey.

I have done this in the past. Wrapped the metal with grill cloth and screws it back on. Easy job and great outcome
