2 basses in a band?

Victor Wooten had three when I saw him live in the Fall. Then again, that's Victor Wooten.

When I saw Victor in June, his band was 4 basses (him, Anthony Wellington, Steve Bailey, and some guy named Dave (forgot last name)) and 2 drummers- JD Blair & Derico Watson- plus a vocalist.

2+ basses can work if you do it right.

Girls Against Boys is one of my favorite bands, and it is an inherent part of their sound. It's not a gimmick, nor are they "progressive". But I don't think their music would appeal to most people here.

For some reason I know I wouldn't like to be in such a band to begin with.

Maybe somewhere along the line when I have an established (standard) band, I could try to experiment with two basses. But then again, there are plenty of other instruments to explore that do not invade our (lower) sonic space.

Ok, that could make me change my mind about two basses in a band. Oh la la, twice the eye candy here, n'est pas? Actually, make that cuadruple eye candy, considering the gorgeous basses attached to the gorgeous ladies.

Their final concert used to be on Youtube in its entirety, so you could see more easily who played what where. Seems most of it was deleted at some point, but there's still a few songs from it, here's one:

Also, when Shakira did MTV Unplugged there were two bassists involved. This is probably the best version of "Estoy aqui" ever, too.
