2 Precision Basses for a 2 bass quiver?

Having something with a second pickup available is something i find useful and you might too, so i'd be inclined to suggest a 2-pickup something or other as your second bass to cover all the ground i could think of, but there's nothing wrong with two of the same especially if you know what you like. Maybe since you know you like precisions to try on a p/j for rounds and straight precision for flats?

I have a P with rounds and a P with flats For the same reason you’re considering it. Works out great. I can grab one or the other as needed.

I fear this is the beginning for OP buying different basses to fit nickel wounds in, the other Flatwounds, and the third one with steel strings.

Why stop there! OP needs a P bass with a maple neck to fit steel strings, a P bass Rosewood for Flatwounds etc.

This has been helpful, thanks all! My plan at the moment is to string up the Precision with rounds to reacquaint myself with that sound and feel, then see about trying out some other instruments to see how they compare. If the P bass wins out, then I'll probably end up with 2 P basses. Otherwise I can put the flats back on the P and add another voice to the choir. My short list to audition includes:
Rickenbacker 4003(s)
Music Man Stingray
G&L L1000 and L2000
P/J and Jazz
That should give me a pretty good idea, I think.

I use to play flats but they did not cut it for most of the gigs I did
and that's why R/W are always on my axes & use EQ for the thump.
