There are often adequate ways to do a number of repairs. There is usually only one best way. Best to you may be the easiest, or it could be the most durable, or the cheapest. Lots of room for interpretation.
Well put. IMO inserts are best for long term reliability, with removal and replacement, and no concern about weight. Toothpicks with no glue are best for a one time, then never touch it again repair with the quickest turnaround time, toothpicks and glue are a good midpoint between them. Ymmv.
 
I haven't found that to be true. There can be multiple ways to address problems. Then again, as I said... some folks like to think there's one best way. Can't say I really understand why. The "best way" could be overkill

I'd call a repair that last for years more than merely adequate.

If you do the toothpicks as I described it's not a one time fix. If it is there's a better than average chance you didn't do it the same way.
