20 years gone

I was never a Nirvana fan, but looking back at it now I can appreciate things a little more. Here is a quote I found from Kurt Cobain some time ago--

"I would like to get rid of the homophobes, sexists, and racists in our audience. I know they're out there and it really bothers me."

I was never a fan of his. Nirvana's music was really pretty basic and simple. I also never understood why when someone commits suicide, they are instantly labeled a genius and influential.

I've never seen it that way. I think his suicide hurts his credibility more than it helps it. Besides, Nirvana was highly rated while he was still alive. I didn't particularly see why, but I'm more sympathetic to their music now than I was then--as I've indicated. This is especially true since I haven't liked a great deal of the music which has come out since that time, with some exceptions, such as Muse.

And whats wrong with basic and simple?

Someone always has to drop in to these kind of threads to try to invalidate the band/music genre being discussed. I'll never understand why people bother to participate in threads about things they don't like just for sake of stating they don't like those things.

His profile says he listens to blues. I'm guessing "basic and simple" isn't really a problem for him. ;)

RIP Kurt Cobain - love him or hate him, you certainly know who he was - which is more than most of us can claim

Yep, you know what I'm sayin'. Darkthrone, Celtic Frost, Aura Noir, Autopsy, etc. All basic and simple, but still great music. And so was Nirvana really. RIP Kurt.

He was a human being who suffered (much of it self inflicted), and felt he needed to take his own life to escape the pain. I don't care who he was or what band he played in, that just makes me sad regardless. The worst kind of waste.

He may not have been another Mozart or Bach, but his impact on music and popular culture was larger than most. I respect that.

Very well put.

Never really a fan but... As an ex-punk at the time, I respected what they were doing. What i really loved was his mom's quote. When asked by some media idiot about the 'conspiracy'. She said something like 'oh, he's still here. He's upstairs jamming with Jimi and Jim Morrison right now... Pretty clear where Kurt got the edge. +1 for kurt's mom.

RIP Kurt.
