2011 Am. Std. Precision pickups. What exactly do I have?

I have 2012 Am Std that had the CS 60's PU in it. Put a Bill Lawrence P-46 in it and it sings now. Big difference, but I guess it depends on what sound your looking for as well.
$$$. I'm sure that AmStd pickup is cheaper to build than a 62 CS. Hope you enjoy the Geezer, bro!
I did exactly what you did. I have a 2011 Am Std Precision, which plays like a dream. I wasn't happy with the stock pickup -- it sounded fine in my living room, but in a band mix, I was always drowned out, and turning up to be heard. I put a Geezer in it, and now I'm always "right there," and at reasonable volumes. EMG hit it out of the park with the Geezer. I think you'll like it.
I have a 2008 Am Stnd P and I want to swap out the pickups too. But I hate hot or over wound pickups that have big boOMing lows that walk all over the rest of the tone character. The Geezer sound samples sound good but can anyone reassure me on my specific concern of boomy lows? What is the resistance reading on the Geezers, the web site doesn't list it.
I have a 2011 Am Std Precision with the original pickups but recently swapped them for the geezers. I also been using the DR Sunbeams for a while too.
The original pickups weren't that bad, through a big 300 watt tube amp i thought the bass sounded good. At lower volumes and with smaller combos, not that great. I didn't ever feel like any low end was missing,( I'm comparing this to a G&L L2500 that just explodes low end) but i did feel like i had to put a little extra effort into my playing to get the tone i wanted, never thinking it could be the pickups. Especially found difficulties playing the D and G strings which would really drop out past the 12th fret. I agree with someone who said the 2011 AmStd pickup is slightly mid scooped and has a weak overall output.
Anyway, i read all the reviews for the geezers and got a set. So far so good. I can say my lower volume tone is clearer with more impact, and at gig volumes, my upper register notes are singing. I don't notice the mid scoop thing anymore. Also glad these are not super high output pickups, and don't overload the input on my amps. These are smooth sounding pickups without anything harsh to be found. And I played about 4 hours of Sabbath the other night, I never sounded so Geezerish!

It's a little over 12. It's not an overwound or hot pickup like a Model P or QP. It's the same design as the stock pickup in Bobby Vega's 1960 Precision. So boomy lows aren't its thing.
The American Series and American Standards have never used the GreaseBucket tone circuitry ... it was the Hwy 1, Hwy One and the current AmSpecials that were/are stock with that ..
Thanks, tjh. Haven't had the pickguard off yet, and wasn't sure about the greasebucket. I can do without it.
From the sound of them the am std pickup isn't much different from the MIM or Squiers. Ceramic magnets on steel poles with a short coil. Its no wonder you think what you do about them.
If you're really curious take a reading with an ohm meter. I'd be surprised if they measure morethan 9k.

Looked up the Geezer's resistance finally. It's 11.20 k. I will say, though, that DC resistance is not the only factor that counts. I have no idea what that means, but I heard someone who knows about pickups say that, so I will say it, too.
I will echo some of the previous responses- the P pickup from the modern pre-2012 era Fenders are terrible. Jimmy is doing a great job promoting the EMG Geezer. Shoot, I think I'm gonna have to pull the trigger. I've got an SD SPB-2 in my 2010 P, which is pretty good, but I think the Geezer might be the bee's knees.
Good info, Jimmy. Yeah, looking JUST at resistance would leave some to think it's a hot pickup, but there's the whole package to consider, like wire gauge, inductance,
type of magnets, polepieces...a LOT of stuff. Thanks for the info, though.

Well, I'm saying I don't like them. I didn't say they weren't any good. If they sound good to you, go with it.
Some of us have used multiple brands, so we have a reference point to go with. I've had Dimarzios, Original '62's,
Mexican, American, and some cheap ebay China ones ($10 or so). I've listened to a hundred sound clips as well.

Maybe it's a case of being happy with the stock pups only because I don't know what I'm missing (ignorance is bliss)! I am happy with stock but perhaps I'd be happier with an "upgrade". What would be involved in changing my pups to geezers - easy for a first timer to install or something a pro should do?
Even though I agree that if you're happy, that's great, I still don't think they're very good pickups at all. Never once had a problem hearing myself in a mix using a Precision until that pickup. I think it was designed to make a better impression at the store with snappy highs and greatly reduced mids, and I don't think the change in 2012 to a more suitable pickup was an accident.
