Well getting a first rounder for Perron--even a late first rounder (Depending on how the Pens do in the playoffs) is really a deal the Oilers couldn't pass up--but they need more defensive skill and more chemistry.

I dunno, not many first rounders even stick with the big club, maybe half? And there are just as many all pros that come from later rounds as they do the first. It's a crapshoot and a chance worth taking to get a player like Perron. At least the Pens didn't bring in an aging veteran with an expiring contract.
I was looking at it from the Oilers' perspective--it was a good move/gamble for them.
That doesn't mean it was a bad move for the Pens--it helps them now for sure, and they seem to have better prospects than the Oilers.
Rangers dusted the Sabers. 10 and 1 stretch.

Jagr.... maybe the all time, best, under-rated player. Throughout his career he has never really been given full credit for his skills and durability.
Underrated? The guy was as big a star as they come. Didn't he score at least 50 goals about 4,5 times in his career and 100 points maybe 5 or 6 times?
Yeah, not sure I can agree with the "underrated" tag. He's fallen off the radar for the new kids on the block, but he certainly had his time in the spotlight. Lemieux may have outshined him (and managed to keep that spotlight on), but I don't know I'd call Jagr underrated. I hope he retires a Pen.
Yes he was/is a star.. an elite player... But he was overshadowed by Lemieux when he was in his prime. He is/was a franchise player, but he never got the opportunity to do so.

Oye. Late loss in the shootout. Not bad considering we grabbed three points in a back to back. And Hutton played. I feel like some of our advanced metrics and luck have finally regressed a little, plus we've got some guys sick and dinged up, but I think we can keep up this pace. The thing that concerns me is how heavily we are relying on our rookies, and how well they can hold up without burning out over 82+ games. And I know it won't happen, but we deserve to have four Allstars this season. Weber, Josi, Rinne and Forsberg should all be dressed for that game.

The Bruins appear to be stuck in first gear - they just had their third OT/SO loss in a row which is not what I was hoping for after the excellent game against Detroit. I get the sense that Claude may finally shake up the lines and we may see their 1st round pick from 2014 - LW David Pastrnak, somewhere in the lineup against the Pens on Wednesday. Pastrnak took a lot of shots when he was up for 5 games last month. The B's have time, but now that they have the whole team relatively healthy, they need to string a few W's together.
That may be, but some of his earlier success was because OF Super Mario. Although still high, did not enjoy the same level of success after going to the Caps.
The same could be said that Lemieux benefited from playing with Jagr. Jagr was dangerous enough that it gave Lemieux more free ice to work with. That's why the 2 of them were such a great tandem.
I agree, he did not enjoy the same level of success in DC, but I don't think it was so much that his performance lacked. He just wasn't surrounded with much talent that complimented his style.
NBC Sports Net just ran the stupidest analysis of an NHL team I've ever seen. Apparently a team (Nashville) that's winning it's division almost halfway though the season isn't a cup contender. Their reasoning doesn't have to do with the team regressing from it's uncanny luck (Rinne playing as a top NHL goalie vs. being Superman), or its 5v5 goals ratio being unsustainable, or Forsberg fizzling out, being unable to beat the Hawks, Blues, Kings or Ducks (who's advanced statistics don't back up ala Colorado last season) or anything else that would've backed their journalism with something substantial. Instead, the reasoning: Ribiero isn't an elite center.

Well, he lasted longer than I thought. With all the media frenzy in this town every time the Leafs lose (and that's quite a lot...) I thought he would be gone by Christmas. He has always seemed to be the kind of coach who insists on hammering square pegs into round holes. (See Mikail Graboski and Clarke MacArthur)
