2014-2015 NHL Regular Season Thread

The Bruins played their best game of the season last night beating the Wings 5-2 (one empty netter). They finally won races and battles, threw a lot of quality chances at Howard and scored goals with both snipes and scrambles. To top it off, they did it without Bergeron and Lucic. If this is the real Bruins team, then they will climb back into the playoff picture and be the team that no one wants to play.

I'm so frustrated with last night's game. Between blowing a 3-0 and losing the chance to steal the lead in the Central back from the Blackhawks and the horrid officiating, I'm not happy with last night at all. The officials missed a few key calls. How on earth do you send a pair of guys to the box after an obvious late hit, but don't call several dives or embellishment. If we have to live with coincidental minors, at least call 'em both ways.

I know, good teams find a way to win, even against the stripes, but #$%^@$%#$.

Hopefully we put a much better effort on the ice tonight.

Great to see the Flames are back to winning (4 in a row now) after losing 8 in a row. Their big win against the Kings coming from behind 3-0 and then winning in OT last game before the Christmas break was what kickstarted the current trend and gave them their confidence back.

Well 2 were against the Oilers--who actually managed to beat the Kings.
But still a good run.

And the Winter Classic--anybody watch?

Had to go out but recorded it. I watch it every year and really enjoy watching the players outside in a big venue. Watched the preamble before we left and it looks like it might be warm with sunshine in Washington - should be interesting.

Then I shouldn't tell you who won?
Since I started recording pretty well all the sports I watch, I've become pretty good at isolating myself from anything that would tip me off. Thanks anyway........great game and probably the best ice surface those guys have had to work with since the WC started. Now we'll see how the Flames do against the surging Islanders tonight.

I watched parts of the Winter Classic. I thought all the sun made viewing angles difficult for TV. I figure the players had the same issues.

I heard one person suggest the WC be played in the same city every year, like how the NFL does their Thanksgiving games in the same cities every year. I'd be cool with that, and the game in Buffalo.

I like that they move it around. It is a great marketing gimmick that increases the awareness of hockey in the city that is holding the event - maybe some non-hockey fans go or at least watch the game because of all the hoopla. It also forges an even closer bond between hardcore fans and the teams as so many people were able to skate on the same ice as their heroes whether it was open skating or a high school or peewee game.
