EB4 - EB5 in Gold bullion and fire burst.

All have a special anniversary inlay at the 12th fret.

Nothing to tempt me to lay down another K but I do like the gold EB-4.

No info on any hardware changes and no new models. The EB will still street at 999 and the SG @ 1400. (I got my Heritage Cherry SG on close out for 900 last month).

I saw one of the new SG Special basses at Guitar Center today (fireburst!) and pulled the trigger on it. Will post some pics ASAP.

How about a T-bird '64 reissue with chrome hardware instead of black?

Did they reshape the upper cutaway on the midtown? I think it looks terrible! If you need access to the upper frets, there are plenty of other instruments that have that. I think they've ruined the look!

They did and I agree that it looks horrible. Raised the price by $400. also.

Yeah, they sort of ruined the look of the Midtown for me. I'm glad I was early on that train.

But, I've been kicking myself for not grabbing an SG Faded for $599. The new Special may scratch that itch for me at only a C note more....hmmmmmmm.

Supposed to be based on the Les Paul Signature bass.

Yeah, I'm trying to rationalize the purchase. I just bought a Midtown a little less than a year ago...same pickup configuration. But I don't own a shortscale, and that price point is tempting. Arrggghhh!
I own three other basses of the sunburst variety which is why I'm leaning towards the chocolate, but that satin Fireburst looks good.

See, the logo doesn't really bother me. Then again I don't mind the "Stinglay" either. I guess I could understand why some folks don't like it though.

Did these already sell out or something, I've looked on the internet and Sam Ash seems to be the only one carrying this bass, everybody else on the internet is saying not available anymore.
Is this a limited edition bass or something, and I looked at Gibson's website and they don't even mention this bass so does anybody have more info on this bass and spec info too please.

This is the 2014 SG Special....not the recently discontinued SG Faded that was just featured in the 2013 Gibson blowout sale.

They're brand new. I think the stock issues are due simply to the fact that some retailers haven't actually received them yet.

I love Gibson guitars, but the basses generally don't do it for me. But that thing sounds great. What where you playing it through?

Simple recording setup: bass -> Sansamp -> iMac.

I can see why some don't like the 12th fret inlay, but I actually prefer it because it looks classy, IMO.

As noted by a poster above, these things are brand new. I was told at GC that I got the only unit the store received. I'm sure this will be in ready supply shortly.

I should add that GC gave me $60 off as a Black Friday discount, so this bass was dirt cheap!

I do not know what is up with the links. Both the wildwood site and the Gibson site had a full line up of the 2014's. The T-bird has jumped to $1,999 but is offered in more colors. The EB is offered in more colors and is still $999. As mentioned earlier the Midtown is $400 more and is called the "Midtown Artist" with inlays and reshaping (I like it better but also do not spend much time at that end of the board). The SG faded is now the SG special and has gone down in price by $200 (helluva a deal and sounds good above). Back to single piece FB (they were laminated), pick-ups changed but unclear what the difference in sound is. It is nice to see Gibson giving some love to the bass segment. I have a 2011 SG special sixer, a 2012 Flying V bass and a 2013 SG standard bass I think a 2014 EB4 in red may be in my future.

I just pulled the trigger on a SG Special in Chocolate Satin. I called up Sam Ash & got a pretty good deal.

I place the blame solely at the feet of ih8law and his nice sounding demo!
