I’ve actually had mine on since August, still really like them, incredibly loud, and I practice arco a lot, though still developing. I really don’t have much problems with starting them. Since I came from an electric background, I kind of get the itch to try some Corellis or downtuned solos from
time to time, then I remember how much volume these things put out so the desire to change fades away.

I love how much louder the 3885w are on my bass than the S42w - both acoustically and amplified.

But now that it’s party season I’m picking up more electric bass jobs and my upright practice time is more limited - and my callouses suffer - so I’ve been pondering a set of perps or something a little softer.

I only lasted a few days without my weichs on my primary bass. Once they came off of my upton they went on my Eastman and I wound up realizing that the tuning stability and clarity of the sound was something that I couldn’t quit. So technically I’m out but have enjoyed spirocores on my main bass for all but maybe 4-7 days this year. The strings really settled in for arco playing with a community orchestra and the principal has complemented the sound.

"In the right hands" indeed!
This video of Joseph Conyers (playing @9:50 and following, talking Spiro Weichs @ 4:35 and following)

was what got the Weichs on my bass and the bow in my hand.
Now, to get _my_ hands doing it, not _his_, that's my upward path day by day. :thumbsup:

Yes, this was part of what has me interested in Spiros as well. Even more so, though, is Xavier Foley, who also uses weichs IIRC. I think he is quickly becoming one of my favorite players.

After hearing for years about the un-bowability of Spiros (full sets, anyway), I started noticing just how many arco players do use Spiros. However, I also started noticing a lot of them saying "weichs," so it's interesting to see more players mentioning mittels for arco now.

I'm not in the challenge officially, but both of my basses are full Spiro. I'd been trying to find the perfect strings for my Upton Hybrid and after feeling like Spiro Weich S42 were still feeling a bit stiff, i took the plunge on a Spiro Solo set and down tuned. They are near perfect for this bass. I've always known this bass didn't like high tension, but was surprised at how low i can go and still get a good sound. My other ply bass has Spiro Weich 3/4 which are a pretty good fit for that bass.

I really do now believe in finding the right tension for your bass, and fortunately Spiro's have a wide range of versions to choose from to get the perfect set.

How's everyone feeling about their all-Spiro life?

@TroyK How's the attrition rate?
Still all good on my end… I’ve found that I can just get on with it now and not worry about how my bass is sounding or feeling… I’m either accustomed to the sound and nothing arco wise is jumping out and biting me… I’ve been playing a pretty diverse range of music with different people and the 3885 weichs are working well… amplified through my rig I’ve had no issues… this weekend I’m playing with some new people kinda electronic ambient stuff through a PA so that will be a new test but confident all will be well with spiros…

Same here, I'm not working as much as I would like to, but I've had no reason to change. I did bump my G up to S42M and it feels great with the 3885W set.

Thomastik-Infeld Mitts (w/Stark G) on my Upton all year and back to all old Mitts on my Czech Flatback. Those young strings on the Upton are really breaking in nicely. The old strings must be 10-15 years old, but I wouldn't have guessed it if I wasn't the one that bought them brand new.
