Double Bass 2022 Spirocore Challenge

I’ve still been on the 3885 weichs I put on to replace my S42s at the beginning of this year, though I tried a 3885 medium E for a couple of months over the summer before putting the weich E back on. TLDR - yes, I’m still in.

Yes I’m still in as well. I’d considered trying a perp G&D over the Spiro 3885s but I’m still quite happy with the set and thinking of leaving well enough alone.

We doing this for ‘24? After a few yrs of Kaplans on my “orchestra bass”, I went back to Spiro Weichs just today - 3885’s with S42 long E/C. It’s like home. Immediately great sounding, perfectly easy to pull the bow with a nice solid tone. edit: and the pizz of course is also exactly what you’d expect - amazing.

Start it up. I'll be a judge. I'm tough, but fair.

A lot of people learned a lot of things about a very standard string type. Even those of us who don't use Spiros .

Hi everyone, I'm in need of this thread's expertise I'm currently trying to order a spiro extension C (which is surprisingly difficult in Australia) and a shop is offering me this string. Does anyone know what it is? looks to me like it could be custom, and its unclear whether its a spiro. Should I accept it? its for a really cheap price for an extension string

I’ve stepped out on my Spirocore G, as I feared and put the Oliv on. To compound matters, I returned to S42 Mitts below and will probably ride this combination.
Why?
I noticed a lack of low end push and the occasional thinness and brightness that I’ve experienced with Weichs occasionally in the past. I noticed more radical EQ on the amp in the effort to get the tone I want.
Acoustically, the bass sounded great but I think Mitts with an Oliv G just suit me better.

The Mitts didn’t stay on long. Within a day or two I returned to the weichs with an Oliv G because the bass resonates better; it just feels right. The Mitts choked it a bit.

I also felt like the Mitts choked a little in the lower register on my bass. But not necessarily in a bad way like the Evahs or Zyex would. Not sure if that makes sense. My bass also seems to resonate more with lower tension strings.

The sleeve color lets me think of a Belcanto, not a Spiro.
It would be easier to say if you can get a picture of the string inside.

My Oliv D and G gave out (I guess a cross country move to a region with actual weather would do that) so I'm back to a full set of Spirocore Mittels. And I think I'm going to stay with them for awhile now. I forgot how awesome a full set of Spiros sound. Plus now that I'm a poor college student again, a full set of Spirocores keeps my bank account happy!
