Thanks for the input everyone! I have played a 5 string Bongo but have not played a 4, I'll have to go try one out, and I will also look into the Carvins and the 24 fret Jazz basses. I know the guitar center by me will have Bongos and Jazz basses, but is there any retail store that carries Carvins?

Only in Southern California.

Carvin is stricly mail-order / online. Go to their website and poke around a bit. You'll get the idea.

Spector Euro NS4CRFM (and LX). You can find em used all day long well under that price. Killer bass!

I agree with all of the people who said Bongo. I would recommend trying a single H Bongo if you can find one, it is my personal favorite pickup configuration. But any Bongo sounds awesome!

Both my Ibanez SRs have 24 frets. I *think* most of the Ibbys do.

They do, and a fine choice they are.
