25" scale micro basses anyone?

I love the minis. I have a mini P-type - a Corsair by Greg Bennet / Samick. The BIG question is what do you do about strings?? As far as I know the only reliable source for 25" scale strings is Gold Tone - they have flats and rounds that are I think, made by LaBella for their bass Ukes. You can't just use cut down 30" short scale strings. They will be far too floppy.

Although a couple inches shorter than specified, I have been enjoying my collection of 23” scale uke basses, especially when I moved from rubber Pahoehoe strings to roundwounds and tapewounds from Pyramid. The fun factor is huge! I do keep one Gold Tone bass with rubber strings for the big blooming sound.

25 inch scale? Why not just buy a PRS guitar whose scale length is 25”, tune it down one octave lower and have a 6 string 25” scale bass?
Because you don't know with which sort of mongrel you'll end up, in the first place. Because a guitar is DESIGNED to be a guitar and a bass is conceived and designed to be a bass. Because you will spend a lot of money only to discover that you could have done better buying directly a 25" scale bass. Because the spacing will be so narrow. Because you can try by yourself and clean the mind from prejudices: sure what is good for me might be not good for yourself and there is nothing wrong, with that. Or you might indeed discover that... you like a 25" scale bass more than you suspected, as it's happening to this old bear writing now. There is space for everybody's taste on this planet. :)

The GW 101 bass is out of stock, but this GP bass may be your alternative. Glarry GP 36in Kid's Electric Bass Guitar w/20W Amp Burlywood Black Sunset - Glarrymusic

Too late, bud: I contacted you in all possible ways but the answer has always been "we don't ship to Europe". When I contacted UK Glarry distributor the answer was: " we have this and that (lots of basses) but we don't carry the CW101" so I finally quit and found the alternative Rocktile twin to the CW-101 (see my original post) good luck any way and thanks for your proposal!! :)

I saw it reviewed on Instagram: it really seems an excellent instrument, built with hi quality parts, as it is the Marleaux, too. But I think it would cost an arm and a leg. In addition, the guy talks about an "octave bass" that I suspect being the equivalent to a standard scale from 12th fret and up. My very unpretentious Rocktile instead is tuned standard EADG and I like it a lot as it is! A... Cinderella fantastic mini-bass! (Paid 118 euro shipping included!) :)

Yeah they’re an octave higher like the cali4, pop them through an octave pedal and they sound incredible.
No doubt. Nevertheless I would never spend such an amount for a mini bass. I suspect they are aimed to somebody that have lots of cash and for which spending 100 or 2000 does not make difference. Not that there is anything bad with that, obviously. I just started this thread to give news (new to me, anyway!) that you can have a travel, full octave little bass for a low amount of money and you will not be disappointed. :)

Any entry about shortscale basses is welcomed, anyway.

Yeah it’s definitely not cheap, I’d love one for my daughter (me) to play on but not in the current economic climate!

Although gotta hand it to them for managing to get a hand made bass with top spec hardware and custom finish for less than £900!

Should I have money to waste I would have built for me a custom 25" standard tuning with hi quality materials. But now that I have my Rocktile "pet" I don't feel the urge anymore. Frankly speaking, the only thing I'd replace on it would be the tuners. Pickups are more than ok; bridge is a standard L one and works ok, too. But it's nice to drool over a mini Marleaux, Alpher, Mayones Cali 4, Meridian Vimana... After all: somebody HAS to buy Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley etc... :)

For the price of the Rocktile it is definitely a candidate for mods.;)

My take is that even the best 25" scale basses are a serious compromise, so not much point in going past Rondo. They are a hoot, and attention getting. I have a couple of lefty's fory son, and one for myself.
