2X15 suggestion

I think you're going to have to do some serious looking to find this. Everything I currently see is 4 Ohms.
More expensive certainly, but if you must have an 8 Ohm load, you could use two 115s and a series adaptor box, like this one from Butch Ammons at Bayou Cables (great guy & company, btw).

Not sure your price range, but I saw the EDEN D215XLT listed on their website as being available in 4 or 8 ohms.
wasnt the old hartke 2x15 also available in 8 ohms?
and iualum has a point. you could reload virtually any 2x15 with 4 ohm drivers and wire them in series for 8 ohms. i used to do exactly that with a pair of 4 ohm black widows.

is there an advantage to going 2x15 rather than 2 cabs of 1x15?
surely it's be easier to move and more flexible to play smaller if needed...

A Mesa Powerhouse 2X15 cab comes in either an 8 or 4 ohm unit. I have the 4 ohm. Rated for 1200 watts. Very nice sounding, and very loud with the right head.
If you are OK with vintage cabinets, check out the old tuck and roll Kustom 2x15's.

The son of bertha is the 1x15. Bertha herself is the 2x15 and definitely a great cab. I picked one up cheap, but I prefer 10's so I got rid of it pretty quickly. I'm pretty sure bertha is 4 ohms as well.
Edit: just realized you said 2 SOB's, sorry. The SOB's are 8 ohms, but using 2 you'd have 4 ohms.
Check out used Sunn cabs. Some are 8 ohm.

I had a 215XLT for awhile, (it was stolen), great sounding cab, filled the stage, great projection, easy to move. I loved it! Finding one is the real problem with the 215XLT, but it's worth the search.
Dr. Bass has some new 15" cabs coming out that looks very good.
Fender just released a new 215 cab.
If your thinking used, maybe one of the Peavey 215's that had the deep cabinet.

2x15s in one big enclosure will create more low frequency (and maybe back problems) than 2 1x15s in half sized enclosures. Especially if we're talking about ported enclosures.
