The '65 L-serial Jazz I acquired in the early '90s was just like that. Same neck specs too. It feels like a lot Jazz basses of that specific narrow era got stripped to so-called "hippie-natural" for whatever reason.

The '65 L-serial Jazz I acquired in the early '90s was just like that. Same neck specs too. It feels like a lot Jazz basses of that specific narrow era got stripped to so-called "hippie-natural" for whatever reason.
I currently have two P basses configured a bit differently (ash, 1-pc maple neck with rounds vs alder, 2-pc neck with rw slab, and flats) from each other and one Jazz bass.
TBH, 3 basses seems approximately 1/2 of a bass to many for me right now.

The three that I own:
'74 P-bass - well, cause from responses above, obviously you have to own a P-bass, plus it's my first bass
'10 Lakland 55-94 - versatile for my current gigs (contemporary/gospel worship)
'94 Modulus Sweet Spot 5 - keep as backup for the Lakland, or trade for high-end Soundgear 5-string

1) Fender Precision American Deluxe - PJ Pickups, active/passive electronics, Drop D tuner, string through body bridge, Shaller strap locks. The perfect P bass specification for me.
2) Style J S.P. Custom 4 String Bass by Lutherie Jeff Mallia. This is a beautifully built Jazz Bass with PJ pickups and active/passive electronics.

NS Design Radius CR6 fretted and fretless. Does that even need a "because"? With the two of those in a dual gig bag, there's no genre I couldn't play.
For my third, I'll just keep my 2003 Warwick Custom Shop short scale Corvette Proline, since that was made to my specifications just for me.
The truth is, I really only "need" two basses, one fretted, one fretless, both with piezo, otherwise matching in all other respects. They could be StingRays, they could be Fender Jazz Basses, they could be Warwicks of some sort, whatever. Maybe Mayones or Sandberg. 4, 5, or 6 strings, it really doesn't matter. And if I were touring, I'd want a backup copy for each of the two main basses, but that's it.

Oddly enough, I've been self-limiting to three.
I'd keep two of my Thunderbirds - my Vintage Pro and my Classic Pro, and replace my basic Epi Thunderbird IV with an original 1963 or 1964 Gibson Thunderbird. Then I'd do the mods to the VP that I was going to do to the basic IV. 8^) I'd keep the CP as is because it sounds so different than the VP, which is very close to the originals. I want the original just because.

I heard somewhere that you should spend 20% or your efforts on acquiring gear and 80% on improving your playing. I’m sure I’m the other way around!
