I started this thread. Since doing so, I’ve added another bass. So that puts my new limit at 4.

OK... same answer I trot out, every time one of these "If you could only have...." threads show up on TB:
I would have NONE. Not any; zero, zip, nada. I'm not a musician; somebody who is driven to make music, first, last, and always. I'm just a Biker - who likes to play bass. Although I learned to play way back in 1968, I learned on a high school friend's bass (a lefty, '68 Rick 4001) because he wanted me to share the experience with him. And, although I played other peoples basses after that, I didn't own one until 1988. I have all the ones I have, because I just... like them. And, since I moved from Las Vegas to northern Indiana 18 months ago, I can't ride year 'round any more; so, playing bass is something to do in the winter, when the snow's up to my belly button and my Harley is languishing in the garage, with it's gas tank full of fuel preservative and it's battery attached to a Battery Tender... Basses are just something to fill the time when I can't/don't ride for some reason. Which is what I'd much rather be doing... Musicians play; Bikers ride. I'm a Biker...
But, I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings, so... in the spirit of the thread; if I could only keep 3 out of... way too many? I suppose it would be these;
- '73 Rick 4001;
- '78 Fender P-Bass (my first bass); and,
- '13 Gibson Thunderbird.
Now, you'll have to excuse me; I feel a need to go to the garage; start my Harley; and sit on it for a while - garage door open, of course...

And, I've added two; a NOS German '17 Hofner Deluxe Sunburst 500/2 Club Bass (they don't make Chinese lefty's) and a '22 Epiphone Jack Casady Bass (they finally decided to make a few leftys). So, I guess I'll add the Hofner to my previous list of 3. Still rather be riding, though...

Awww, c'mon... you don't really want me to post a list of all the 25 other basses I own - besides the A-spec-necked '78 P-Bass I've owned since 1988, - do you?

I’ve played several. They all worked fine, but none of them grabbed me.

I'll have two of the three. My fretted mahogany serek Armitage P and the walnut fretless Armitage p I have due in November. For a third I'd have another fretted Armitage with Serek singles. Something for a Ric vibe.

Dingwall ABI 3X 5 string fretted - active/passive, tuned BEADG with a D-tuner on the B
Dingwall Super P 4 string fretted - passive only, tuned EADG with a D-tuner on the E
Dingwall Super J 3X 5 string fretless - active/passive, tuned BEADG with a D-tuner on the B

I think this covers all the bas(s)es I would need sonically. All would get nickel roundwounds, and I'd implement a mute for when I need a more flatwound-like sound. I could honestly "be happy" with 1 fretted and 1 fretless Dingwall.

I currently have 12, would love to downsize to 3, but sentimental value only allows a minimum of 6.

I reckon I might put all but those 3 away for the next 6 months and see how I get on.
