3 Effects/ Pedals That YOU Have to Have

Mine is boring, and totally utilitarian instead of cool and creative, but here goes:

All Boss pedals:
TU-2 Chromatic Tuner
LMB-3 Bass Limiter/Enhancer
PQ-3B Bass Parametric Equalizer

The limiter allows me to bring up the high notes' volume to match the lows in a quiet club where they regularly complain about our volume (we're a bass-piano duo!), the enhancer knob allows me to get by with a somewhat dead set of strings, and the EQ lets me dial in/out certain frequencies that blossom in the room or are disappearing that night for some reason.

I keep it all in a Boss 3-pedal box, with right angle George L's plugs into the sides, so all I have to do is remove the cover, plug the adapter into the strip, plug the cables into a bass and my amp and I'm DONE. :)

If you're talking effects:

Distortion/OD
Octaver
Some kind of Env Filter/Synth thingy

I don't use effects for all my gigs. But the two pedals I never leave the house w/o is of course a tuner, and then my Xotic TriLogic bass pre, especially in situations where I'm using an unknown backline--the Xotic is as much a life-saver as having a good DI in my bag.

Speaking of distortion, anybody using the El Grande Fuzz? Looks cool, and I've got a spot for it:)

I don't want to include tuner (not an effect) or compressor (since for me it's always-on and part of the basic tone), so I'll say:
- OD
- Filter
- Modulation (I am undecided over the years between phase, flange, chorus, and univibe)

For my situation: Darkglass Vintage Microtubes (overdrive) >> Keeley "Bassist" Limiting Amplifier (compression) >> 3Leaf Enabler (pre-amp/EQ/DI)

Disclosure - I'm purely a home studio guy, so keep that in mind:

EHX Qballs - envelope filter, pseudo-synth, straight dirt, tone shaper; makes other pedals better
Boss GE21 half-rack - 21-band graphic EQ for precise tone shaping
VonRutter Family Effects (R&D branch of VFE) Rocket prototype - unique tone shaping, and a really good variety of high-gain tones
