30 years from now, boutique or cheesy?

I can totally see today's boutique basses being called tacky 30/40 years from now, pretty much like today we see anything from the 80's...

How do you think it's gonna be in 2040? Fancy basses will be cheap and most of us will be playing P or J basses, or something like this will still be cool?

Boutiques will never be cheap. Boutiques are expensive because of the rare woods they use, and in 2040 they will just be even more rare if not mostly extinct. Labor will be even more expensive as I'm sure machines will have probably taken over most of the work and human labor for basses will become less common and more expensive.

As long as there is an appreciation for highquality beautiful wood, and crafstmanship, boutiques will never go out of style.

But really, I'm sure trends will change and in 20 years people will think they look "vintage" and that vintage basses now look "antique".

I think above anything else, the single cut design will look like the BC Rich basses look to us today: horrible.

The designs will change for sure, but there will always be that market segment that thinks the "classic Fender styles" are boring. Such is the way of fashion and design

I see it like this. Look at Alembic. Their basses have been around for almost 40 years. I don't believe that another 20 is going to change the appreciation for beautiful craftsmanship and quality. The style may change but I'm sure that boutiques will still be around and looked at, by many, as a thing of beauty. Think about Stradivarius. This was the boutique of it's day, centuries ago.

I personally think boutiques will always be sought after, despite my tendency towards other basses.

I own a Stammie single cut and a BC Rich Eagle. Horrible? I wouldn't call it them that. Instead of "us" you may wanna say to you.
