30 years from now, boutique or cheesy?

by 2040, we will have wiped ourselves off the planet, true to devo's predictions, which are being taken way more seriously these days because we can actually see it happening. fortunately, i'll most likely be dead by then anyway.

I think above anything else, the single cut design will look like the BC Rich basses look to us today: horrible.

You mean those expensive, collectible, highly sought after BC Rich basses?

I can totally see today's boutique basses being called tacky 30/40 years from now, pretty much like today we see anything from the 80's...

The Alembics and Carl Thompsons from the 70s and 80s aren't considered cheesy so I'm inclined to believe contemporary boutique/artisan basses won't be either in another 30-40 years.

I know aesthetics aren't really fair game for discussion (No "ugly" bass comments), but I love the look of a beautiful figured wood top, they can look really classy and rich.

However, from the audience, a Buckeye Burl topped bass usually looks like either a very bad paint job wearing off or like somebody barfed on it. I REALLY hope those go fall out of fashion.

MTD's and Foderas and CT's have already been around a long time IMO. Don't see them being any less trendy/awesome.

They'll be popular in 2040, but in 2050, relics will be in again.

If we keep all the basses we own today, then by 2050 our gear will be relics. We wouldn't have to buy a bass that's been mechanically altered to look old.
