32" Scale String Reccomendations

I have a custom gauge set of String Joy nickel rounds on my MIJ Squier P. They're on their website, just scroll about halfway down this page to find the medium scale options. I've had mine for a while and was initially impressed with the tone, but they did seem to become dull a little sooner than my previous D'Addarios. I agree with @michael_t, they are on the stiff side of the spectrum, so they may not be what you're looking for.


I can't find these medium scale strings on the Dunlop or Fret Nation websites. I must be missing something, but I can't figure out what. @gruvit, would you mind posting a link for these?

I emailed Dunlop and they directed me to Fret Nation. They have kind of a goofy messaging system (no regular email address) that I think you have to create an account to use. They don’t have the medium scale, medium gauge listed on the site but if you message them they’ll send an invoice for you to purchase if you say how many packs you’re looking to buy.

Best we can tell it's a 79 (only year for the horizontal logo). In really great shape, straight neck, truss rod nut perfect. Had to change the bridge, but that's it. Measures 16 inches to 12th fret.

Well, youve done the measuring, so you know pretty much which strings will fit - and which ones won't. Most rounds that I'm familiar with, don't have silks at all. Unless you want to put flats on it (I would, but 20 of my 22 basses wear flats, so...), silk at the ball end won't be much of a problem; most of them only have silk at the tuner end. I know that TI's do - both flats and rounds. Come to think of it; So do Roto's; their flats and tapes, anyway... I have "short scale" TI JR324s on my Gretsch Broadkaster - a 30.5" scale bass that's physically so big - with a trapeze tailpiece, too - that it will easily wear long scale strings. Even with silk on both ends. The TI's it wears are juusst long enough to work - as in, I only had to shorten the E and G strings about an inch to get the 3 wraps around the tuner post that I like. The A and D strings worked just as they were... In any case; if you want to use them? Some people trim the silk at the ball end to clear the saddles; and some people stick the strings thru an old ball end, to give the proper clearance. Which may offend your aesthetic sensibilities, but is cheap; easy; and works just fine...

Just wanted to follow up that Fret Nation contacted me about their contact info being difficult to locate (on my phone at least, where I do most of my browsing). Jason said he’s taken the feedback and is going to try to make email, phone number, etc more visible so customers can contact them via their preferred method.
