$340.50 Rickenfaker? (Made in China content)

A lot of people will tell you they're trash simply because they are not a real Rickenbacker. I for one think that it looks fantastic although not 100% accurate. It may not sound like a Rickenbacker which could be good and / or bad. Something else to keep in mind is Rickenbacker's QC of late. They have let a few lemons out, and (IMHO) this bass looks every bit as good as one of those.

It could be great or it could be complete garbage that's the chance you take with Chinese instruments.

I will grant that this is probably the best bad chinese ric copy I've ever seen. And, if you replace some parts, it might actually turn out decent. However, I'd still avoid something like this. Plus, it is unwise to pay before you play anyway.

Still though....one must wonder.

Can't be worse than the 10 year old yamaha from my school that I've practiced with occasionally....

If you want to gamble it, tell me how it goes.

The mere fact they are trying to pass these off as the real thing should be a HUGE red flag to stay away.

I know this is flogging a dead horse but at one point the ad says this:

"When purchasing this guitar you can only stand to win. If you are dissatisfied with the , look or sound of this guitar you will receive full refund; however, if you are satisfied, you have just saved yourself hundreds of dollars!!! So go on, treat yourself to the guitar you have always wanted."

In the return policy it says this:

"We will offer you full refunds only the item you received is different with the description, please return it within 3 days after you received it, and keep it good condition! After we receive the item, i will give you Full-Refunds or exchange, but we won `t return the shipping cost. you must contact with me before return the item back. Please read the RETURN POLICY before you order it!"

In the words of Monty Python: "Run Away!!!!"

It's quite interesting to me that so many of the Japanese copies, Greco, Fernandes, Hondo, and so forth are rather well regarded as legitimate in their own counterfeit way, but the same doesn't seem to follow for Chinese companies. (Not that I can name too many.)

Maybe it's just a lack of history? Lots of the Japanese makers, Fujigen and whatnot, ended up being used by the same brands they were copying. This doesn't seem to be true with Chinese luthiers, though that could be due to a variety of reasons.

Instead, it seems Indonesia is the place to be, and Korea before that.

I played a Chinese Ric copy in a local shop, it was awful, AND it was 2 grand. I'll have to go back to get the name.

My brother is a patent attorney. He said this company is making a ton of knockoffs and are violating intellectual property rights laws. They are also selling copies of Gibson Les Pauls which look so good, it's hard to tell the difference from real ones. I don't know anyone who has bought anything from them but I would be curious as to how they play and sound.

If any of the folks above are really OK with these rip off basses, then BUY one and tell us what kind of quality it has.

I bought a Greco T Bird and can say it is a great bass. But I BOUGHT it and have experience with it.

Instead of criticizing people who think these basses can't compare with a real Rickenbacker, PROVE them WRONG by purchasing one of these Chinese knock offs and reviewing it.

I will wait for a review.
