Nothing better than a literally inaudible musical instrument

I'm sure you would hear something. Harmonics, fret noises.

Sure, it may be silly. But nothing new was ever discovered by standing firm on safe well known traditional grounds.

Fieldy explored the concept of scooping mids to the point of mud and fret clank. He made art out of it and was quite successful. A lot of bassists here don't want to accept that, but its true.
 
My question with all of these crazy low tunings is not why they exist, but how does one accurately tune one of these strings?

I personally am interested in what the person ordering the string is going to tune that low for (like what they would be playing that uses that low of a note).

F# is really not that low. Ive heard it in music before and its not some crazy inaudible, law breaking frequency. I'm personally looking at modifying one of my 6ers to handle the low F#.

Also, doesn't a keyboard go lower than that? Quit bashing.

A keyboard does not go lower than this. A Gregg clarinet with 32' of pvc tubing goes down to C @ 8 hz, which is also MIDI note 0.

And no, you have not "heard" it in music before. No human can hear the fundamental of 5 Hz. This F# is 2 octaves below the F# you are talking about. Jauqo's C#? More than an octave up.

A fun experiment, but these frequencies are not useful unless you want to attempt a conversation with an elephant.
 
Well then that explains why the string is so much larger than the largest strings I'd ever seen.

Either way I'm not going to go around telling the guy its a crap idea. Dude wants it on his bass, then he's gonna get it. I, for one, wouldn't mind playing a bass like that. I think it'd be fun.

First 3 minutes of this excellent video demonstrates electronic organ tones down to 8Hz and 4Hz, quite an experience with good headphones. Can you hear it? you'll soon find out haha. Can be quite effective for adding sub frequencies to higher bass notes. A F000 string is extreme, even by O4P standards, being a full 3 strings lower than the G#00 string which is the current largest ERB string available.

From my frequency chart you can see an F000 would make a 16 string bass possible:
