.375 string by Octave 4 Plus.

People were asking me the same thing about my low C# string over 10 years ago and then a few years later a few companies started offering low C# strings.

There will always be opponents to things outside of the standard. If there are no pushes away from what is "traditional" or "standard", there is zero possibility of innovation.
Period. The electric bass was a innovated push from the traditional instrument, the 5 string, the 6 string, contrabass, so on, so forth. Whether or not it's practical or "useful" (for whatever that term is worth), we need movement like this just for the sake of keeping stagnation in check.

That being said, how do you go about tuning your Contrabass accurately? When I tried F#, I had trouble with tuning and that's not quite close to where you are.

For my low F#, the 12th fret harmonic is usually how I tune the string. I don't have a low C# string (yet), but I suspect I'll have to employ the same technique.

A ~5Hz F# could probably be tuned by just watching the string.
 
A keyboard does not go lower than this. A Gregg clarinet with 32' of pvc tubing goes down to C @ 8 hz, which is also MIDI note 0.

And no, you have not "heard" it in music before. No human can hear the fundamental of 5 Hz. This F# is 2 octaves below the F# you are talking about. Jauqo's C#? More than an octave up.

A fun experiment, but these frequencies are not useful unless you want to attempt a conversation with an elephant.

I totally agree.

I use a good tuner along with my ears.
