What makes the YD such a great match with the Proton and WL is the dynamic, envelope-like quality of its fuzz, as discussed further back in this thread (maybe go back a year or two). You can especially hear this when muting the strings with the right-hand palm, left-hand choking, etc. Combining it with the envelope filter really enhances the juiciness/funkiness of the wah effect. Other fuzzes often slam 'balls-to-the-wall' with less dynamic effect. I haven't tried those with envelope filters yet; that may also work as its own flavor and effect, but I just know the YD and 3leaf envelope filters totally play like they were made for each other (as one would expect, duh).

Thanks for the reply and good to hear! This is what I've read here before and heard from the demos as well.

Do you know how well the Doom plays with an active bass?
I've got active pick-ups, although not extremely hot.

What other options should I consider? I guess the You're Doom is a good match. Cannot try that one before I buy though. What else similar to consider is there?

Hi Karla

I guess it depends on what sounds you're going for. I really like the You're Doom paired with the proton for great synthy sounds. The YD has some weird envelope thing that happens by itself that you can affect by palm muting or not which really gives you some options. Also with the blend switch you can adjust how in your face the fuzz sound is - when you roll the tone off your bass this acts like increasing or decreasing how fuzzy the top

Anyway I've used the YD with an active jazz bass and it seemed fine.

I thought I was after a more regular Muff type fuzz (perhaps with some more mids), and the Doom is more of a synthy fuzz. But the more I listen to, and read about the Doom I think it is probably a more useful and fun sound for me to use.

Maybe if there's enough interest. I doubt it would be much cheaper than the standard Octabvre though - because I'm a small volume shop and the cost of making something in the USA is so high, I can't really charge less than 229 USD for any new designs.

I for one would love the smaller form factor, means I could get another pedal on my board!!!
