+1 for this. Also, the external buffer switch is nice for a song that calls for a filtered FX tone that needs to switch to a clean tone at some point. Just put the FX pedal in the loop and you can control multiple pedals with just the WL Deluxe.

+1 for this. Also, the external buffer switch is nice for a song that calls for a filtered FX tone that needs to switch to a clean tone at some point. Just put the FX pedal in the loop and you can control multiple pedals with just the WL Deluxe.
Just posted this in another thread, but figured it would be of more interest here. I pulled the trigger on the WL Deluxe, to compare against the WL v1, GR2, and JoshWah that are currently in my possession. Ultimately, I'm going to keep 2 filters on my board, so some decisions will need to be made in the next few weeks. The Deluxe arrived yesterday, and I spent a solid 3-4 hours toying around last night, so this is all just initial thoughts.
I expected a quick sale of the WL v1, assuming I was simply upgrading to the added expression FS, face-mounted boost knob, and external buffer/bypass switch with the deluxe. However, the filters do not sound identical side-by-side. I know the sensitivity is increased on the deluxe version, but the controls also cover different ranges. If you match the knobs, there is a clear difference in sound between the two. The filter itself seems to be voiced a bit higher on the deluxe, if that makes sense.
Overall, the deluxe sounds brighter and more resonant/liquidy on the top end. The v1, on the other hand, sweeps a little lower when the filter closes. With the same settings and the sensitivity dialed in on both, the V1 seems to maintain/emphasize the low end a bit more in the first position. I can achieve a little more murky, lower pass sound with the original. If both boxes had the same external features, I think I would go with the v1. So, this is going to be a lot of AB'ing over the next few weeks. What a terrible problem to have...

Interesting. I never tried the Deluxe. Do you have have the buffered bypass on in the v1?
I loved my WL v. 1 so much that I bought the Deluxe as soon as it came out. I quickly sold it after comparing the two. Much prefer v. 1. It's juicier, more pronounced.
Yep. That was my initial thought, so I tried the deluxe both ways to see if it made any difference. Negative. You can dial them to get very close in overall tone, but the settings required to do that look pretty different, and the v1 seemed to "close" at a lower frequency and retain more lows, for lack of a better description.
I feel like I may end up in the same boat. I will say that I think the deluxe can sound a bit more nimble with the added emphasis and resonance on the upper-mids and highs (a la the Wooten demo). The v1 seems a bit more greasy and full bodied through the tail end of the filter sweep, though. That's what I'm typically looking for in an EF.
With all of that being said, the comparison is very nitpick-y. I don't know that i would've noticed the differences had I just sold one and subsequently bought the other. This is only coming up because I've had the luxury of comparing them side by side...

In the studio I hear the difference, same as described above. But found the GR1 even warmer/deeper/darker than the WL1. The deluxe is more high-fi sounding to me. I use it live as it gives me the right voice in the mix.
All of them are great in their own way. If I ever could get my hands on a WL1 again I would buy it and keep it. I will find use for it at some point. Same with a GR2

Today I received a new Proton V3.. man, that thing is even more fun than the V1 I have!
But still, keeping the V1, and GR, and WL Deluxe.. all of them are differend and good in their own way. Love the Spencer envelopes!

I did not own them at the same time, but love the tone pot on the v3. Besides that you can make the v3 sound like the v2 or v1 (that I did an A B with yesterday evening)

What do you mean with a Fromel? The pedal manufacturer or the finish Spencer did on a number of wonderlove's and proton's a few years ago?
The purple/blue ones Spencer used to sell. It looks so cool. I almost grabbed the Proton like it that was in the classifieds a few weeks back.

Put my new trifecta on my small board. Really diggin the Pwnzor...not a big compressor guy until now. That thing is my new secret sauce.
I've tried and tried to find a group of pedals that can pull off the synth tones like 3leaf pedals can do. The You're doom is where it's at for that unique synth tone. Here's a video I made of the ones I have. I added a bdpg and the polytope at the end to show where you can go.
I just finished tasting over a dozen high end compressors and the PWNZOR is one of 3 top picks. Very nice comp - lots of flavour!
