3Leaf Audio Club - Episode 2

Our NYE gig went splendidly, and all of my 3Leaf gear was singing along nicely.

I used the enabler aux and headphone feeds for my monitor mix, use the Proton on all or parts of several songs, and the YD for Next Girl and Hysteria...'twas a good time ringing in 2014

So...2014 starts out mighty fine...this morning my YD arrived (shot of the complete homeboard to show all other 3leaf pedals. Plus: The Polytope and the CE-2 are still fighting for their place. I'm unable to decide which one I like better):

First impression is...impressive.

My history with fuzzes showed pretty quickly, that I'm rather interested in the effecty/synthy functionalities of these machines.
I returned a TAFM, since I couldn't get it to sound any different than a fizzy kind of distortion. Then I sold a Wooly Mammoth, because while I loved the ultragated sound, it's cheaper cousin (Mastotron) also had this sound and had some more tricks up its sleeve (e.g. some nice farty/burpy action with lower gain).

Which brings us to "Doom".
The lower gain settings (from all the way counterclockwise to 9 o'clock) are a thing of stunning beauty, especially the touch-sensitive dynamics. They kind a remind me of those low gain Mastotron settings, only with a lot more color and harmonics.
A totally inspiring sound, which also vaguely reminded me of the Single Band Octave setting in the Source Audio Multiwave Bass Distortion (though I could never make those sound like they didn't have some kind of blanket over them).

So while I might have been a bit impatient with the pedals I returned (esp. the TAFM), I loved that the Doom sounded beautiful from the get-go. I'm very eager to explore it much further. It also works great with the Wonderlove (and I even think that it cooperates a little better with the CE-2 than the Polytope...this is yet to be confirmed).

All in all: Great job!

Oh man, I'm gonna have to pick up a YD soon. I'm really digging my TAFM, but there's just too many positive things being said about the YD
to not see for myself.

As mentioned: I'm very impressed. Maybe it's because I was so used to the sounds of the Mammoth/Mastotron that I was identifying their really harsh/effecty/synthy gated sounds with fuzz in general and therefore couldn't find anything remarkably "new" (for me) about the TAFM (as mentioned: I'm pretty complete in the territory of Overdrive and don't really need any fuzziness in that), but the burpy low gain areas of the Doom are really something worth exploring. It's very organic and groovy.

I'm always ready to put a little effort into it, but when the sound of a pedal makes me smile within the first couple of minutes, the probability that it's a keeper is usually higher (based on empirical evidence from the last two years of effect-madness)...

Clubs on here are totally unofficial, have no real system, and are not really moderated. You "get a number" if whoever feels like they are running things happens to notice you, and bothers to make a new post with you on the list, which could happen -or not- "whenever".

Just give yourself a number that isn't already taken. :)
