I do think Ian shouting out 3LA so frequently has made the second hand market alone go up by like 30-50% in value. I can't even imagine how much it positively impacted his new sales.

I remember the Ghost launches (His first launch in like 2 years) took several minutes to sell out, this was before Ian widely praised them on the channel. Vs now when he would sell out 333 batches in under 2 minutes. It's clear that something (or someone) has vastly increased the interest.

I'm not saying his 'gizmos' don't speak for themselves in terms of quality and function, but credit where credit is due.

Oh, I agree his creations 100% stand on their own. Unfortunately it’s like watching history repeat itself when his creations garner high praise from the community and then Spencer acts almost directly hostile to the community that make them so popular.

Like, he made the modern equivalent of the OC-2, basically named after a modern bass leader in Lefebvre, which blows up, doesn’t meet demand and then makes comment on the scenario.

I’m not a big fan of the capitalist explosion in music gear, but there’s obviously demand for what he’s made. If he won’t meet it, eventually someone will. And you don’t even need to be forced to buy an onboard preamp if you don’t want.

He’s obviously a genius with circuit design, he just needs to put the ego idealistic creative part aside and bring literally just one person onboard to make business decisions. You can keep the integrity and be successful, I’d say what Joel has done with Chase Bliss is a great example.

Having been around for the original Darkglass/Pike dust up and see people get banned first hand, I'll limit my commentary to:
The childish, temper tantrum-y response to the Mood 2 seems more than a bit hypocritical.

And I guess that despite my parents starting me in music lessons when I was four and being involved in music for almost my entire life... I'm still just a cheap imitation of a musician for using a Stomp.

I was around for the original drama as well. He copied the visual aesthetic of the B7K, and heavily tweaked the circuit to his taste (still CMOS based). He also proceeded to sell off a bunch of Darkglass prototypes he had (Duality fuzz, Tone Capsule, etc.) without authorization from Darkglass to do so. Seems he was angry that Darkglass decided to move production from 3Leaf back in house in Helsinki. When pressed about the similarities between the Vulcan XL and B7K on this forum, he crashed out and made some tasteless statements regarding how much Darkglass pedals cost to manufacture versus how much they sell for (insider information he had as their manufacturer at the time that he was likely not at liberty to disclose).

So while he didn't directly clone the B7K, his handling of the situation could have been better. As @Erithon said earlier, two wrongs don't make a right, but here we are.
