No comments on the received Octabvres?

I got mine, tried it for a few minutes. Sounds great and has a pretty wide range of tones. These days I am favoring the bridge pickup for a midrangey punch, and with that setting the pedal tracking is not great below C (3rd fret A). It's fine on the bassier settings, but it's a bit disappointing. In any case, the tone is probably better than any other octaver I've tried (and I've tried a lot).

I don't know if all of the pedals in this release have the same color/finish, but I've UnSpoilered the pic in case you want to manage your surprise factor:

Got mine as well. Same colorway. I dig it in comparison to my MXR Vintage Bass Octave. I find it much more useful and sounds better.

Just picked up a Wonderlove v1, and was curious if anyone else is familiar with this or if my unit is a bit funky (and not in the good way!).

When the internal dipswitch is set to the un-buffered bypass I get a pretty noticeable and substantial tone-suck/high-end loss, is this normal for v1s?
In the buffered mode it's much better, but still like maybe 5-10% difference in tone vs straight into an amp.

Jumping the fx loop with a patch cable didn't seem to make a difference (in the buffered bypass mode at least)

Just on it's own, Instrument -> Pedal -> Amp. I like to test pedals quickly on their own when I receive them just to ensure they turn on/pass audio. Don't usually A/B vs straight in tone but it was immediately obvious there was tone suck, until I flipped the switch to buffered bypass. But like I said, only pedal in the chain so not like a long run of cable or anything. Cables/power supply are fine, work normal with other pedals.

Just curious if this is a known quirk of the Wonderlove V1 when set to un-buffered bypass.

I'm actively searching for a Doom 2 - wondering if y'all think there is a noticeable / beneficial improvement in the post-2023 version, or is one from 2020 just as good. I know the newer ones are slightly different...

Edit - found Erithon's post comparing the two. Seems like I'd be happy with either version.

I just did a search on this thread and found an old post from 2013 where Spencer mentions an issue on certain Protons from the same era this Wonderlove V1 was produced that caused a potential tone suck issue. Guess I'll shoot him an email and see if that issue existed in the WL1s as well.

I also have a V2 and found that it also affected the tone bypassed but it was more subtle and maybe even like boosted the signal when bypassed? (Mine didn't seem to make a difference much if it all for buffered vs un-buffered)

I have to agree though. WLV2 is my favorite 3leaf filter I've yet tried on my rig. The fx loop just puts it over the top, can never get the same kind of dynamics with lots of pedals on before a Proton.

I've talked about this a few times in the past on this thread. I think the OG DOOM 2 is personally better for stacking with pedals for synth bass, and the DOOM 2.1 (or whatever we call them these days) is better as a standalone fuzz (It still sounds great for synth bass, just has a slightly different character that I don't find myself as drawn to)

I go back and forth having either on my board these days, they're both a lot of fun, and you can't go wrong with either. Wouldn't say one is better than other, just slightly different.

I actually just had an unfortunate incident with a buddy's coffee and my pedalboard.. had to clean off everything, and my Ghost DOOM 2 took a hit. He has these holes near the pots for this little nub to catch in, but it's kind of a spill hazard lol. Noticed some drip through onto the PCB. Mattered less when he had the old big knobs, but they're exposed now with the smaller ones. Might yell at Spencer about it.

I'm glad my comparison was helpful! If you decide you want an original version, message me. I recently received a Ghost version in partial trade (letters intact w/original box and manual) that I do not need. I already own enough Doom 2s lol

I agree with this. The differences are real but slight: either version works for either purpose, but the original has the edge for synth bass and the revoiced the edge for standalone fuzz.

Put up audio of a longer track that this video was excerpted from:



It's my CIJ Fender Donald Duck Dunn Signature Bass played with a pick thru Tech21 Geddy Lee MP40 SansAmp - I turn on the EQD Blumes at about 1:06 and turn off the Proton at about 1:20. My settings were not scientifically determined! I was playing a different bass earlier in the session, pulled the DDD P-Bass out for the last jam. Any envelope filter is sensitive to the signal it's being fed, so these might not be ideal, but I still like the jam!

Got some time to mess with the Doom 2 last night and this morning - pretty neat piece of kit. One problem, which I also had with a Team Awesome Fuzz Machine, a few years back, is a persistent high-pitched noise when the pedal is in my signal chain. Fuzz seems to dislike some of the outlets in my apartment, so I'll try other power sources to see if it goes away, but is this something that is "expected" from the Doom 2?

Nope, the Doom 2 is dead quiet. Sounds like a power supply problem
