4-10's & 2-12's in a PH 810 cabinet?

By the way, I blew a tire on my car. I found a junkyard wheel that has the same bolt pattern, but the tire is smaller. If I add a spacer to the coil spring, that'll compensate, right? I don't want your opinions on whether it's a good idea. I've been driving for 27 years.


It will compensate for your loss of ride height on that corner and the difference in diameter won't be an issue as long as it isn't a driven wheel.

The "driven wheel" qualification shows that you understand how a differential works. So if I intend to mount different diameter tires on opposite sides of a transaxle, and only want to know how to compensate for the different height, will you still advise me about the risk of differential wear?

Nah, depending on how far you planned to drive it, I'd probably just tell you to pull the wheel off of a non driven axle to put on the one coming from the diff. That is unless you came in asking for a spare AND a lesson on how differentials work.

You never said why you want to do this in the first place. What could be gained, buying 2 less drivers?

If it's just general info, there's a sticky up there loaded with it.

If it's something specific to your situation, people can and do help. But if you just blow off the info if it's something you don't want to hear, why waste their time with it in the first place?
 
Yeah, here's the thing. Mixing drivers is a tired old subject, and has been very well defined by the actual experts as a bad idea. You came here asking, and myself and many other members came in and answered, trying to give you the best advice possible. if you read the amps forums regularly, you'd already know the whole mixed driver debate, and why your great idea is not really that good. It gets tiresome, repeating the same thing over and over, so no, I did leave a short, but valid reply. Some people don't want to learn, and would rather go on believing whatever mythology they're used to. too bad, really. we can all learn if we're willing.

You've shown a flaw in my analogy; it's possible to swap wheels from front to back. But I think you got my point.

True. For the other posters, the problem with my idea is that the differential will always be working, and will see accelerated wear. But since I haven't asked for a lesson on how differentials work, there's no reason to clue me in.

Sorry that you got more information than you wanted, but "derailment" is way off the mark. I think RickenBoogie's post is on the money. Normally, I stay out of threads like this, and this reminds me why.
 
Wow, this thread was really quite an abortion. What exactly did the guy hope to achieve by mangling a perfectly good cab? He already said it wasn't "more lows", which he wouldn't get anyway because he also wouldn't get "greater power handling", and he probably wouldn't even get "better tone". Add to that he'd be taking the resale value from 60-0 in 1.2 seconds, while simultaneously having to put a ton of money and time into it, and it would end as a futile and pointless excercise culminating in his severe disappointment when he scraps it for next to nothing on CL to go buy a new 8x10 to replace the one he foolishly destroyed. Plus, Mesa makes identical 4x10s and 2x12s anyway, so why not just sell the 8x10 and buy a pair of those if that's really what he wants?

I don't understand people that ask for advice and then refuse to take it. Considering how many opinions you will get in a typical TB thread, the fact that this one was pretty much unanimously screaming "don't do it!" should have clued the guy. But a lot of people have more money than sense. Oh, and this is coming from someone who thinks that mixed size rigs can be great WHEN properly put together with a little forethought.
 
I tried coil springs on my cab without spacers and it fedback like no bodys business. I tried a whammy bar that wasnt OEM and it worsened
Things even more. Ive heard coil springs shaved down a bit with a grinder mounted under your pickups is the answer,but you want to make sure not to use spacers OEM or otherwise. Then make damn sure you take out the old springs before you mount them or it really throws a stick in your wheels.this is from a veteran whos played for28 eight years over on arguebass.
