4 beasts, one choice...which route do I choose?

That is a GORGEOUS bass, and I've heard pretty much great things that, like most Yamahas, this is a sleeper of a bass...wolf in sheep's clothing, basically. I'm just hesitant with the ebony board paired with neck-thru construction. I've had nightmares in the past, with the ebony splitting/cracking badly, and nothing that could be done, because I couldn't take the neck off to repair it. I'd at least prefer a bolt-on w/ ebony.

Cool thing, is that I wrote Nathan about this, and he responded to me a couple of times about how reliable his bass has been for him. Then again, if one fails, he can just get a free replacement. Regardless, I was stoked that I heard from the man himself! :)

I forgot that my hands don't really dig the tighter spacing of the Peavey necks, so probably not going that route anymore.

If it's got the return policy, then I'd go with the Kinal. Like I said, I think it's the best looking of the three.

Yeah, I totally agree. The only thing I'd change about mine is the steel strings to nickle. Also the barts are kind of dark, it's hard to carry a melody with through the mix. I'm selling it for a fretless.

I dropped a Aguilar OBP-3 in my bass and it made a huge difference in the overall sound. I actually find myself cutting the treble a little. I've had more compliments on this bass after gigs than any other I've owned.

Do what I did in Skyrim.

Save your game before you pick. Pick the first choice, try it out, see how you like it. Go back to the save. Pick the second choice, try it out, see how you like it. Go back to the save. Pick the third choice, try it out, see how you like it. Go back to the save. Pick the one you liked the best.

Skyrim was a long game in a world of long games, and I have a life, so when critical choices came along, I wanted to make sure that I got everything I liked in the first playthrough.

Nice idea, as I've kind of grown to liking my ESP, because it's super-easy to adjust, and sounds good out front. I just would prefer to have two basses, and make one a backup or main axe.

Aha, that makes a HUGE difference. Yes, as MaxThroughput said, the preamp is indeed dark, so I can see how a swap would bring things to life. I think the pre's in the older Prestiges were much, much better. My old Japanese BTB had an absolutely KILLIN' stock preamp!

previous Cirrus 5 strg owner ... the 35" scale and flatter radius and my older arthritic hands did not get along .. !? sounded OK , but had serious company ...

you might find a Sadowsky Metro close to those prices ..?

The Peavey is, by far, the most affordable of the bunch, and it's a US Cirrus...and it's the same color as my car. :p Also, the owner does indeed have the Peavey, just that he's not around much. I don't mind paying more for the Bacchus or Kinal, aaaaand I need your help to pick one!

**UPDATE: I'm no longer considering the Peavey. The blue Kinal is the priciest, but she's very pretty....**

Well the build quality is head and shoulders above the rest, for one. I've played a couple and the necks were awesome... I mean if not having played one is a problem, why is it on your list?


You will get more bass for your buck with the Kinal. If you do the research on the various brands, I guarantee you will be more impressed with Kinal as a company. That'd be enough for me to choose from this list.
