4 finger technique

I started learning the 4 finger technique about 4 months ago and right now I feel like I'm almost there. I can play pretty much everything I know with 4 fingers. I still have to work on evenness because my middle finger is louder than my pinky. My bigger problem is that now my left hand is too slow and I have to work on that.

i play mostly with two fingers.. i try to play with 3 or 4 but ..the distant from the fingers to the strings are different ( each finger has its own size ) and i cannot feel like playing that fast with 3 or 4..it seems that my hand must get down to the side in order to get a good position..

but i´ll pratice more..to see if there are any changes

as first read, I was gonna respond to frankencow's 1st question until it was obvious he was on the other hand.
anyway, to his original yet misguided/whatever question . . .

I'm using only three fingers on right hand with the pinky as a way to mute a string when necessary - I guess one could argue that that is using all four -but not really in the usual sense of how it's meant.

i still cannot understand why ppl need four fingers when playing fingerstyle. Someone please explain how it works.
