4 ohm sub 40 lb 2x10 makers

several years ago i was looking for some sub 40lb 2x10 cabs that were 4 ohms with high power capabilty, so i bought two hartke transporters and modified them. the original speakers were 16 ohm (x2=8ohms) and only handled 150 watts/cab, so i replaced them with two deltalite 2510's in each cab and added a x-over/tweeter with true bypass switch if i just wanted to use the 10's. each cab is now rated at 500 watts (thermally) and weighs 32 lbs. they sound way better than before and i've even just used one of them with an SVT-VR head and it was incredibly loud and punchy & i couldn't be happier with the result

Nice. I've been wanting to find something in 4ohms as well to use with my Shuttle 3.0. I may do the same (sans tweeter).

Interesting...were the 2510's drop-in replacements (meaning did the screw holes line up)? Would the same thing work for the XL? Can't seem to find the Transporters anywhere.

Have you ever tried a low-B equipped bass through them?

Where's the best place to get raw Eminence drivers?

So many questions!! :help:

From an economic standpoint for me I could take my 8 ohm 2x10 SWR Golight cab and have the 16 ohm drivers reconed to be 8 ohms. I talked to my speaker reconer and they said they could do it no problem for $100.00

I asked would it change the SPL's of the drivers and he said no that all the specs would remain the same.

Hmmmm a 38 pound 4 ohm 2x10.

I might end up doing this.

I posted a thread about it a while back and folks thought I'd lost my mind (which is true but beside the point). :D

I recently purchased a 4 ohm Golight 4x10. That could remain my big setup and the 2x10 my powerful small setup with LMIII.

If I ended getting a Shuttle 9.0 this problem would go away though. :eyebrow::D

As a side, note my Golight 8 ohm 1x15 is extremly loud with major bottom booty. It is just a lot bigger cab than the 2x10 and weighs 45 pounds. It's a bit of a strain to move it unlike the 2x10. :bawl:

When I used the Epifani UL210 @ 8ohms, the LMII just didn't
have the power to get that cab moving, but it sounds great
with my UL310 (5.3 ohms??) I would think a 4ohm UL210
might work well with the LMII. That box gets big and loud for a
2x10.
The Bergantino AE210 right at 40lbs. It's much more sensitive
than the UL210. This little box really roars. Not as big a low
end as some others, but the lows still sound just great. One
very nice box.
The new BMF line from Schroeder looks VERY nice. I think the
1010 BMF is about 38lbs. 4ohms, and it will take lots of power
while still being efficient.

When I looked into what it would take to capitalize on the capability of a 500 watt microhead, after doing a lot of modelling (and some prototyping) I concluded that very few 10" drivers could realistically handle 250 watts in a bass application, and no lightweight ones could. The problem was that they'd run out of excursion below 150 watts each.

that certainly may be true, and i tend to believe that, but i can tell you that using just using one of the sealed 2x10 transporter cabs w/2510's, it sounds surprisingly huge with my SVT-VR, as well as my GK1001RBII. i haven't measured what the GK is putting into it, and i'm obviously not going to try pushing its full 700 watts into it (or even 500) but it has easily kept up with my 5 piece band (two keyboardists, guitar, bass & drums) playing fairly loud classic rock. it doesn't really take that much power to get them going.
