4 string 36" scale Cocobolo-Ebony-Pau Ferro CT inspired

The lid for the electronics cavity was cut from the laminate before it was glued to the core. Drill a hole, thread the coping saw blade through the hole, reconnect to the saw frame, and cut. It's after that that the back laminate is glued to the core.

Right! I cut the cover from the back before glue it to the core.

I made the "football" for the jack, the bridge baseplate (the neck is inclined), the nut and the trussrod cover.

Next step i will mount all the hardware and string it up. I'm still waiting for volume pots from BanzaiMusic, but i will try to connect the PuPs anyway, just to try everything and hear it!

Test assembly

I miss the volume pots, but I assembled the rest.
The neck PU is too close to the strings, i need do make more space under the PU.
String tension is perfect!
The Bartolini Pups sound very well, I was afraid it sounded too dark, but it's not so, thanks also to the steel strings i think.
And it's not difficoult to play with it's 36" scale. I use to play 32" scale basses and there is not so much difference for the left hand, thanks to the angled heel block!
I have already disassembled everythings, and i'm sanding... Than i will put 3 coat of Danish Oil.

Thanks! For me this is the best compliment!
I have never play, or touch, or even seen up close a CT, but my love and respect for Mr.Thompson are so big that i searched for years any news, pics, interviews and videos of Carl and of all his basses, everything that could help me building in the same way he does, because his is my "master", and i can't do anything but do in "his" way.
I hope someone could understand... There is something spiritual in this my obsession, i think ....i hope! :p

However, this bass could never come out from his shop, because there are some defects he never will leave in one of his instruments: a little crack in the neck pocket, a cut by knife in the neck heel, some imperfect joints between top and body, and some missing veneers in the top.
And most important he don't like laminated neck like mine (i have seen only a no-frill with a 3 pieces maple neck, the only one...)
And, of course, this one could look like a CT, but probably my bass should suck in comparision with a CT, because i'm not Carl, i have not his experience, his knowledge and his skill.

I understand. CT has always been one of my biggest inspiration too, but don't sell you're self short, this bass looks fabulous. truly great work. :)

ARGHHH!!!!!!! Having read through this entire thread, I need to see the completed instrument! It's like watching a great movie and having the power go out before you know how it ends!!!

The bass looks fantastic in those pictures. Very good job Mr Marziali.

And, subscribed :-)
